      Gives one freedom to work on research they would like to pursue Well-renowned in the field of research networking opportunities Friendly co-workers

      Unprofessional More like an event management company Your whole tenure depends on your immediate boss and his/her whims and fancies too much internal politics very few encouraging bosses no opportunity to learn

      Poor research quality, used to be good now become more like a news outlet

      Pros

      Decent place to get some very basic policy research experience on CV and network. It used to have good researchers and publish nice analysis but has been trending towards 24x7 news outlet in recent years with focus on opinion pieces, blogs and conferences. Do not expect to do any serious research here.

      Cons

      The work is mostly menial labor and ghost writing for the senior fellows and director. Also expect to do a lot of work organising conferences, even those that are not related to your field. Salaries are terrible and work culture is very bad with public humiliations, abusive language and more. Most junior employees leave within 2-3 years max.

      Pros

      Flexibility: they allow you to choose which department you'd like to work in and look to accommodate your interests. Responsibility: you have the opportunity to engage in independent work and get it published on their website. Conferences: can attend and participate in conferences and talks put on by the ORF often with top speakers in international relations.

      Cons

      Can take awhile to be assigned work and receive feedback.
