Pros

The ‘people’. Despite upper management decisions the people at the coal face deliver as they are professional and understand the limit of their capability.

Cons

Too much outsourcing of key activities as it is seen as the right business model for selling the company by reducing headcount, pushing up the spend and failing to deliver

Pros

Good benefits Not a lot else

Cons

Management were awful, felt bullied my whole time there and COVID made it worse Upper management seemed like they’d never sold a phone in their life, let alone everything else expected of sales advisors Unrealistic expectations/KPIs for the sales team while management sat in the office all day, despite needing their assistance on the shop floor No chance of a promotion even if you’re the best sales advisor in the store, they’d rather hire externally

Pros

Demanding but fulfilling role. Good staff benefits (phone contract, discounted Wi-Fi). If you’re in the right store, you can have a brilliant team dynamic

Cons

Undue pressures on targets. Upper management can be occasionally unclear on their objectives. Removed commission so personal targets can be unfulfilling

Pros

Worked with a really fun team, the people at store level (below manager status) do their best to look after each other. The pay was really good and the quarterly bonus was fantastic. BeBrilliant points were very handy to save for Xmas shopping. The store environment could be so much fun! I think I laughed 90% of the time. My team were the nicest people. Lots of work trips, you get to go to headquarters in Slough, which is a lot like Google headquarters in the film The Interns and meet other store workers, events were held at Twickenham, or larger stores where you just got to have fun, hang out with other people and learn what was next for the company. Watching Apple keynote speeches before new iPhone launch was always an adventure. Loved those evenings gearing up for the launch. They always seem to feed you pizza, cakes and cookies! This could be a con, because you WILL gain weight if you’re not careful. O2 are definitely feeders. Incentives and regional competitions galore! Good benefits packages, great sick pay, great maternity/paternity leave and pay. Supportive and flexible to a certain point. The kindness wears off though.

Cons

Staff meetings that could’ve been an email are a regular occurrence and really boring. When the store isn’t doing well, you’re in for it. Things can get nasty. Upper management were not right in the head (region 7, I’m looking at you). Came out with nonsense and put on pressure for no good reason. Being mystery shopped on compliance, or general customer service is terrifying. You will get disciplinary action if you aren’t 100% perfect. Disciplinary action if you have a bad sales month, made to feel worthless and attend additional training outside of working hours to improve (you’re not always paid, you get the hours back, so a shorter shift follows). These sessions are in no way helpful. You leave with a headache and not much else. Not paid for all the hours you spend travelling if you need to attend an event they put on. Getting holidays approved is a total nightmare! You cannot book December at all, iPhone launch is blocked too. Summer holidays, half terms and Easter breaks are usually hogged by the same staff members every year. It’s retail, so don’t expect to enjoy Xmas, Easter, bank holidays or any national holiday ever again. Don’t expect to progress unless you become a favourite. Favouritism is rife. So is gossip, weird rumours about yourself are almost guaranteed.

Pros

It was great as a student, flexible work schedule and I was able to learn useful skills.

Cons

All was going well, then a bad manager joined and ruined it for me, forcing me to work during class times that were pre-agreed and being toxic to me in front of customers. I complained to upper management but they never listened or replied to my complaints, after enduring a few months I quit for my mental wellbeing

Pros

Benefits are good but not good enough to make you waste your life here

Cons

They will tell you there's plenty of options for progression but it's simply not true, best to leave and re apply as an external for promotions, bonus scheme is appalling for all the work and effort you do. Upper management are led by KPI's that can only be described as positive discrimination. You will be promised everything under the sun and at the end of the day nothing is done and no one really cares as long as they get theirs.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review and for being honest about your experience. We are dissapointed to see that you feel there is no progression for you within the company and we are surprised that you feel like that as all of our internal vacancies are advertised on our careers portal and we have ran 2 internal talent programmes called Evolve where we have had over 40 of our Stores colleagues from across the UK move in to Head Office roles. We can see that you still work for us so if you would like to discuss your experience further and how we could help support then please do reach out to retailresourcing@o2.com with your contact details and we shall be in touch.
