Pros

You get a salary, and that’s about it.

Cons

By far and large, the worst employer I have experienced in my career. Everything that could go wrong, WILL go wrong. I worked for Nordcloud for half a year, and in this short time I managed to experience the worst time of my career. I can only speak of the Operations department as that is where I worked, but I met colleagues from other departments who had similar, if not worse experiences. Starting with the job itself, already from the beginning, nothing was clear and established and I had to rely on my own knowledge most of the time. Coaching/Support from my manager was practically non existent and in general I did not see good effective collaboration between teams. The tools the company uses are outdated and extremely slow for a company this size. Every simple little thing needs a “ticket” that takes days or weeks to get solved, and the processes are badly defined. To get to one simple report you have to navigate between 3 different systems as if we are still in 2008. The company is focused solely on billabillity and has complete disregard for anything else. I saw multiple people get fired without even having a chance to work on any project (overhiring much?) Most jobs in this company, including mine, were promoted as fully remote. 1 month into the job, my manager was telling me to go to the office regularly… which makes absolutely no sense. (She ended up using this as a reason to end my employment) Middle managers in this company can be some of the most toxic and two faced people you will meet in your career. In my personal experience my manager only made it difficult for me to complete my tasks only to complain about me later and has been difficult to work with from the very beginning. My manager would also send me work messages on a weekend, during the night. A note for my ex-manager: A good working environment does not rely on threats to your personnel specially when they have been complying with all company requirements. The cherry on top is the way I was let go: no proper warning, couple of weeks away from ending my trial period and 2 weeks away from my first bonus payout. I was dragged into a call out of the blue, with my manager and one HR employee, and given the unpleasant news in a very unprofessional way. Overall an extremely unpleasant and inhumane experience, Nordcloud is not what could be considered a traditional finnish company. But I guess having one look here in Glassdoor is enough to understand that. Avoid this company if you care about your mental health. I am leaving one star, because I can’t leave zero.

Pros

Still some colleagues left to share your frustration with.

Cons

You don't believe these kind of things happen before you experience it yourself. You join a company in the beginning when it's relatively small, there is excitement in the air, there's vision and everybody feels they can contribute to the growth and culture of the company. You feel ownership of things. Times are hard but you feel a sense of accomplishment when you bit by bit mature the processes and solutions and win new deals. Great things are waiting. Then you get bought buy a giant, who just wants you for your pool of talent and industry credibility, to fix all the excrement shows they have created, but has zero interest in developing anything except the bottom line. Instead of interesting and cutting-edge technologies you end up working with massive failed migrations, legacy applications and things you thought you'll never have to see again. You are forced to compromise your work ethics. Just get it done. And then there is hyper growth. Double the size of the company every year. Because big is beautiful. It doesn't matter if your organization can handle it, maybe the quality suffers a bit but who cares? As long as deal sizes keep on growing and the management bonuses keep flowing. No one is really in for long term anyways so it's not their problem. You stay for the money. Suddenly billability is the new god. Hypergrowth is not profitable growth? Who knew!? All the good things go away. No more free training, no more community events. Let's trim a bit. Streamline. Does it affect billability in a negative way? It's not important then. Let's keep the company values though, they are free and mean nothing. Layoffs, layoffs, layoffs. In the end you just don't want to interview people anymore because you don't want to lie. Not about the company or the fact that no one is actually being hired. You don't want to go to the office anymore because it will only get you more depressed. Sad faces and lambs without a shepherd waiting for the slaughter. You stay because you still wish some miracle would bring back the company you joined, the one you rooted for, but you know it's not going to happen. People are leaving, seeing where things are heading. There are no happier times ahead for this place. Unlike with Jonah, there is no escape from the whale.

We appreciate your candid feedback about your experience with our company. We understand that your journey with us has seen the transition from a smaller environment to a larger organisation with different challenges. This transformation has presented both opportunities and complexities. As a company that started with a small team, we are incredibly proud of our growth journey, becoming a European leader in cloud services. However, we also recognise that growth can bring about changes in culture and priorities. We acknowledge your concern about the recent layoffs, which were part of our strategy to optimise our workforce and enhance efficiency. We want to assure you that these decisions were not made lightly and were intended to ensure the company's long-term stability and growth. We are committed to supporting our employees' development, both through opportunities for training and through fostering a work environment that aligns with our values. We have an annual individual training budget in place, allowing you and your People Leader to have control over your personal development and learning journey. Creating a positive and proactive work culture is a top priority for us. We acknowledge that there are areas that require further improvement. We encourage you to continue the dialogue by reaching out to your People Leader or relevant channels within the company. Your insights will be instrumental in helping us make informed decisions to better our work environment. The Nordcloud Team

Pros

Recommended if you enjoy being treated as an Excel cell.

Cons

Nordcloud is an employer that should be avoided. The high-level management is unhelpful, and seem to have no care for the wellbeing of their employees. Their communication is completely detached from the reality. They're unresponsive to employee concerns and requests. The working conditions are grueling, with extremely chaotic projects being brought in and chanted as success. The pay is below industry standards - variable pay (bonuses) were cut by half, despite the record-breaking financial results of the company. The working environment is incredibly hostile and unsupportive, leading to high levels of stress and anxiety among staff. Negativity everywhere. Overall, Nordcloud is an employer that should be avoided. The working conditions are unfair, the pay is low, and the company culture is unsupportive. It's a shame, as this used to be a great employer a couple of years ago, before the three letters era. If you're seeking employment, make sure you steer clear of Nordcloud.

Thank you for your feedback. We’re sorry this is how you currently feel about the company and we’re working to improve our processes and communication. We acknowledge there’s work still to be done in terms of our internal communications, and we’re continually evolving initiatives like our Townhalls to provide more transparency and feedback. In these sessions, all questions and concerns are answered during the Townhall itself, and/or in written form shortly after. We’re also collecting feedback from employees via Officevibe and, based on feedback we periodically plan actions and implement changes. And some of the changes we make are to improve our communications, following recent feedback around this. Regarding salaries and bonuses, these were reviewed recently, as we did an external benchmarking exercise and we are above or on par with most markets. We’d encourage you to please contact us at letusknow@nordcloud.com, or use SpeakUp to help us address these challenges. We welcome an open conversation and always keep things totally confidential.
