Pros

Exposure to a multitude of technologies so you are able to self-teach on the job Some good and knowledgable people inside

Cons

The environment and culture at this company is incredibly toxic and extremely detrimental to the mental health of anyone who wants more than a mindless place to exchange their time for money. The ethos of the company is extremely negative with anyone who has any complaints being publicly shamed and labelled a moaner in an attempt to subvert others into not vocalising their complaints. Instead of listening to their staff they offer life coaching. Not listening to feedback directly so they can address it instead of losing the valuable views of their own staff is a clear demonstration of their lack of interest. Voices are not heard, processes are put in place and talked about and then fizzle out with no follow up or feedback. Decisions come from above/select individuals who don't understand the entire situation. This is despite being told ideas have value and are worthwhile when in reality the decision has already been made leaving to a feeling of pointlessness. There are a lot of secrets within the business which adds to the impersonal and soulless feel of working there. There are very poor lines of communication to raise any issues with only certain people having power to make changes. These people are often not on the side of the general members of staff and do not take action required to improve working conditions. HR is not really an option either as feels like an afterthought and does not feel like a staff friendly option with professionalism often thrown out of the window. Progress is smoke and mirrors that suits the business and not based on your achievements. It is often given to staff who don't deserve it which devalues others who have earned it or been overlooked. "Training" and "qualifications" are a myth mostly free or irrelevant and done mostly in own time with no support. Time logging is unethical and this is known, failure to comply results in pressure being applied. There needs to be allowances you cannot legitimately track every minute of 8 hours. When discussed it's suggested breaks should be taken from your lunch hour. A 15-30 minute allowance is sometimes given but very inconsistently and is often revoked. Overall this is a very common complaint internally but never satisfactorily addressed in favour of not impacting the bottom line/profit of the business. Middle management/director level are yes men who often don't understand the roles beneath them and have progressed on a personal level and not due to their skill in the role much to the frustration of other staff. There is an air of posh white boys club at the top of the business. The persuit of the business is purely money there is no personal touch, compassion or consideration for people, staff and customers included. Staff are purely cogs in the machine and seen as numbers. Your value is graded on your willingness to stay in line and do as you're told. Please don't insult me by suggesting I speak to anyone in the business about these issues because I made several attempts to do this while I worked here so I don't see why I would waste any more time speaking to deaf ears. I supply my view here purely in the hope it saves somebody else from wasting their time with this business as an employer, customer or partner in any sense. Also I don't think it's a coincidence that an anonymous 5 star review was added shortly after the last, accurate, 1 star review.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. Any and all feedback is always taken on board as we always endeavor to improve our employee experience. We are sorry that you felt some aspects of Netmatters were not what you were looking for within the role or company which ultimately led to your departure. We would like to take this opportunity to assure you that all issues and concerns are listened to, and although sometimes these response times can take a little longer, we want to ensure these are dealt with through the proper channels and in the best way possible. Some ideas and suggestions can take a longer period of time to implement, or may not be the right path for the business at the time. We would like to apologise that in this instance you felt these were not listened to. Our team's mental health is of the utmost importance to us, and we are always striving to improve ways in which we can support employees. We understand a life coach may not be the support everybody needs or feels comfortable with, as we are all unique, but we do have many other tools available for those who reach out. Life Coaching is available for all those who wish for extra support with mental health. Our life coach is offered as we believe there are some topics people would wish to discuss privately or have someone with specific qualifications support them. Our HR department is always available for anybody who would like to reach out. Our Home-working flexibility, lunch and learns and variety of PDP meetings with seniors also aim to assist our Netmatters colleagues. Thank you once again for the feedback, it has been heard and will be actioned as appropriate to help us to continue to improve.

Pros

- Access to free company gym. - Literally nothing else.

Cons

- Poor staff parking solutions. - Inaccurate job titles. - Generally rude and unhelpful management. - Damaging to mental health. - Questional behaviour from some staff that leans towards bullying. - The IT management is non-technical which has caused numerous issues when trying to explain the most basic things (Leads to unrealistic expectations). - The people running the teams (Pods) are generally not even close to being qualified for that position. Makes for some poor work life. - You are expected to log 480 individual minutes and you are very heavily expected to log almost all of this to customer time. First of all, who can account for 480 minutes of thier day down to the minute. Nobody is able to genuinely and ethcially log that time down to customer facing work, it's just not even close to viable. If you log any time that is not able to be billed to a customer you start getting questions and meetings, it's just so weird and shady. - A lot of the people I worked with, myself included had a lot of difficulty logging all 480 minutes becasue, well it's just not possible to do ethically and you are made to feel bad for logging non-billable time. Even though you constantly sturggle and tell them you have issues with it they provide literally no help other than a meeting to say you need to get better at it with absolutely no direction on how to imrove (The only way being to log time unethically, I was genuinely told at one point, to add a couple of minutes onto my logs here and there...... "as long as it's not blatant"....) - I've never had a job before where I wake up and genuinely dread the drive into work because I know how miserable I am going to be. - You get the job advertised as a first line. You are NOT a first line you are a second line. I'm not sure if Netmatters are just this ignorant but it seems like they just call you a first line so that they can pay you much less. Any other company this job would be called and paid as second line technician. - Any chance for training is generally non-existant or soo slow to ever come around, you usually way too busy to be doing any kind of meaningful training. - It was quite damning when speaking with recruiters when looking for a new job, every single recruiter I spoke to was well aware of Netmatters and how much negative press it gets from the endless people leaving. - Insanely high staff turnover in IT. I worked with countless people who started and left before me because it's just not a nice place to work, one of the new guys in my team told me that he hated working at Netmatters so much, he used to cry when he got home because of how taxing it is to work there mentally. - Netmatters has some very *interesting* ideas... I was told by someone at the top after I had a few legitimate medical absensed from work that even if I am ill, I should come in anyway and they will tell me if I look too ill, no he wasnt joking he was dead serious. - I have genuinely damaged my mental health working here. - Even though there are opportunites to learn here, they are not often and it certainly wasn't worth it in the end.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review and ultimately we are very sorry that this has led you to part ways with us. Your personal feedback is something that we have already taken on board. We try to factor all of our feedback from past and present colleagues to pave the way for the future of everyone at Netmatters. We work continually to put procedures in place or adjust existing procedures to make Netmatters an enjoyable place to work for everyone. Managing stress and understanding an individual's mental health is something that we work hard to support at Netmatters, and we encourage anybody who may need a helping hand or someone to support them to reach out in a number of ways. In addition to this, we provide company-funded independent life coaching sessions, industry accredited qualifications, and regular opportunities to discuss career progression and qualifications with line managers and the company directors. If there is anything in particular that you would like to speak to HR about, please do contact us directly and we can speak about this. We are again sorry that you felt you had to leave, and we wish you all the best in your future.

Pros

Exposure to multiple technologies. Provides an organised way of working which can be useful in other areas of life. Forces problem solving.

Cons

The culture within the company is toxic and this is set purely by senior management. If anyone works here for an extended period of time it will be detrimental to their mental health. I spent the last years of working here hating my job and I found this carried over into my home and personal life. There are mental health posters dotted around the office with who to speak to to get help but this must be done in your own time and not on company time. The irony is lost on senior management that the reason mental health declines is due to the rules, procedures and the environment they enforce. Senior management force employees to work a certain way when they themselves don't follow the same rules. The company is very much built on a “do as I say not as I do” mentality. When challenged on anything or a new idea is raised its always “leave it with me” when nothing comes of it in the hope the idea is forgotten about. This leads to a feeling of worthlessness in the workplace. Everyone is forced to log 480 minutes and everything has to be justified. This causes time logs to be exaggerated costing clients more time and money than what they are actually using. Management uses words like efficiency which is another way of saying we want to squeeze even more out of employees . During my exit interview I discussed the time logging and how so many people struggle with it and how many Glassdoor reviews reference this as an issue. HR confirmed this is raised in every single exit interview but yet Senior management have not adapted to the feedback or reviews purely because less time logged = less money in their pockets. To help those who are struggling with logging their 480 minutes each day Senior Management brought in weekly time logging of 2400 (480 x 5 = 2400). Meaning if you can't log 480 one day you have to make it up over the course of the week to make sure you are logging a total of 2400 minutes. This only compounds the issue for employees who cannot log their time as they are waiting/worrying all week to be told off at the end of the week for not logging 2400 minutes. This is particularly infuriating when Senior Management will log one time log per day, of 480 minutes, with the notes of “Bus dev” or “Various Stuff”. Having worked at Netmatters for so long I knew how to “play the game” and log my time but I have seen so many employees struggle with the time logging and constantly be questioned and harassed to the point where they either get fired or have to leave as their mental health has taken such a hit. I always said that I would recommend anyone starting in IT to work for Netmatters for a year or so to gain the skills required to work there and then look to move on however having left and realised there are so many better companies out there I very strongly recommend no employee looks at Netmatters as a viable option. There are so many companies out there who do truely respect you as a worker and will make your working life so much more enjoyable. Do not be surprised that a 5 star review will now appear after this review. Once this review has been submitted the digital marketing team, within Netmatters, will get a task in their queue to raise a fake review or find someone new and naive to raise a 5 star review to push this review down.

Firstly, thank you for taking the time to leave such a detailed review. These are always taken very seriously at the highest levels and all feedback is taken into consideration as we constantly are looking for ways to improve. The management team are committed to providing a good value, excellent level of service to their customers as well as providing a good working environment for their staff. From your review we can see that in your experience that on this occasion we missed the mark. We take the mental health of our staff very seriously and there are a number of avenues available for any staff member who feels they are struggling. We have a dedicated HR department who is best placed to provide any additional support or training needed. We also have additional support available in the form of our life coaching sessions and a Mental Health and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy through our private healthcare provider Vitality - They have unlimited talking therapies and items such as out-patient cognitive behavioural therapy or counselling to help with a variety of mental health problems such as depression and anxiety as well as ADHD. We can also appreciate that time-logging can often be difficult. Our business model is unique as we sell “time” to our customers by the minute. This means that every hour is accounted for and customers can be sure they are receiving quality work at all times. That being said, we would never ask someone to unfairly bill a customer. As part of our “Perfect Working Day” initiative which have made it much easier for staff to log time through their working day, which includes flexibility around necessary breaks required throughout the day. We wish you all the best for your future endeavours
