Pros

Benefits benefits benefits benefits benefits, all due to Illinois

Cons

Some of the worst examples of leadership on the Illinois campus and within the academic comp community. They are absolutely worth their poor reputations

Pros

The work can be interesting and the benefits are fairly good.

Cons

Funding can be unstable, and seems unlikely to improve in the foreseeable future, given the general decline in federal research funding. The state of Illinois has its own financial problems, including seriously underfunded pension systems. (Recently, it went almost two years without passing a budget.)
