Pros

None. For real. One of the worst and most psychologically unsafe workplaces I have ever worked at in my whole life. Not sure where the top 50 SG employers comes from.

Cons

Any attempts to value add will be noted as a challenge to the top management and you WILL be blacklisted. They make maximum effort to let you know through unprofessional gaslighting and an intentional engineering of a psychologically unsafe work environment around you. Regardless of how much effort and time you spent on a project, bear in mind that there will be massive reworks over and over again, not iterations, but reworks. Why? Because there is only one person allowed to make decision for ALL NHG matters. Doesn’t matter if you are hired as the subject matter expert, your ideas, experience and expertise does not matter here. You must be willing to accept all instructions and directives even if you think that there can be a leaner and more effective approach. Plenty of office politics at working level fuelled by self-serving interests that are masked by hypocritical team camaraderie.

Pros

Yearly bonus is pretty stable.

Cons

After reorg with new gceo (not Philip Choo), work environment got worse. The default became work from office, which is totally opposite from government’s initiatives to push for flexible working. If wfh has been working well for so long, why take it away entirely when the new gceo came, without any good reason and without consulting staff what works better for different groups with different needs. Productivity has also dropped with working from office, where time is wasted travelling, socialising etc. Meetings always overrun now and do not start on time as compared to past virtual meetings where everyone is always punctual. Many good employees will eventually leave for other employers which can provide better work environments and this company won’t be able to attract good talents as monetary compensation is not the sole attraction for workers today. Furthermore, the progression here is extremely slow. Many studies have already shown that full work from office model is no longer effective. Happier workforce will naturally increase productivity. The approval processes has also increased and got more difficult. Instead of simplifying processes to improve efficiency, the layers are more and time taken to approve something is longer too. This reorg seems to make things even less efficient and becoming a more backward company.

Pros

Biggest perk - Opportunity to encounter professional and brilliant colleagues. Management keep changing their mind so you always have something to work on - I believe this means you can keep your job if you can tolerate change. You get to be the first to know about healthcare news and schemes. Great if you enjoy bureaucracy and it's accompanying pace. There is some opportunity to rotate amongst institutions due to the large network.

Cons

There are many decision makers and there is a notable cycle of being held up, only to be rushed, only for plans to change. There is a fair bit of show and tell, top management can be imperious and deaf to the ground (i.e. deaf to both staff and the public). Not particularly work-life friendly. Hybrid work arrangements can be improved. Some casual racism encountered - disturbing. Due to new management, hybrid work has been reduced / nullified. Poor justification was provided.
