Pros

The experience in a somewhat niche market

Cons

• Terrible managers in the Financial Consulting arm of the firm • The worst micro-managing experience of my career • Lack of clear rules, role clarity, clear expectations • Extremely high turnover. Analysts leave 6mo to 1yr after being hired • Lack of advancement. There were employees who had been with the firm for 6-7 years who had never been promoted • Lack of an adequate rewards system • Poor pay

Pros

Very laid back atmosphere and most employees are friendly. You can wear shorts and sandals during summer. Company outings.

Cons

There was very little training, yet high expectations. On the surface the culture seems great, but over time you realize it was false advertising to cover up the dysfunction. There are only people who have worked there 10+ years or brand new people. They have a 100% turnover every 2-3 years.

Pros

First off, congratulations on doing your research before applying! That already puts you ahead of the curve. If only I had done the same, I might have saved myself some surprises. But hey, life’s about learning experiences, right? Consider this review my little gift to you—think of it as a friendly nudge before you make any career-altering decisions.

Cons

Let’s start with the basics: Yes, this is an employee-owned company with an ESOP. Sounds exciting, doesn’t it? Who wouldn’t want to be an "owner"? Well, before you start dreaming of board meetings and decision-making power, let’s set the record straight. While you technically "own" a piece of the company, it’s more like owning a commemorative brick at a park—you know it’s there, but it doesn’t really change anything. Decisions happen at the top, and your stake is more symbolic than practical. Now, about the actual work—if you enjoy staying busy, you’ll love it here. The workload is enough to keep you engaged from the moment you log in until... well, whenever you finally convince yourself to log out. The job is meaningful, and you’ll gain valuable experience, but don’t expect to have much time to appreciate it. Deadlines are tight, clients are demanding, and if you thought "employee-owned" meant "employee-empowered," let’s just say those are two very different concepts. Career growth? Promotions? Let’s just say they’re more of a legend than a reality. People talk about them, but few have actually seen them. If you're hoping for a clear path upward, you might need to bring a flashlight because it's pretty dark in that direction. Hard work is certainly noticed—it’s just not always rewarded in ways you’d expect. As for the management team, they’re very supportive… in the way that a motivational poster is supportive. You’ll get the occasional email reminding you about company values, and of course, you’ll hear about the ESOP at least a few times. Actual hands-on support, clear guidance, or advocacy for employees? That’s a little harder to come by. You’re largely on your own, which is great if you love independence but not so great if you were hoping for structured mentorship. And let’s not forget about the office culture—a fascinating mix of hardworking professionals and, well, the kind of gossip that could keep a tabloid in business. If you enjoy workplace drama, you’ll have plenty to observe. If you don’t, just keep your head down and invest in some noise-canceling headphones. Lastly, communication at this company is a bit of a mystery. Important updates can feel like puzzle pieces scattered across multiple emails, Teams messages, and random meetings. Transparency is a great idea in theory, but in practice, it’s more like a game of “guess what’s happening next.” If you enjoy solving workplace riddles, this could be a fun challenge. If you’re looking for a high-pressure, high-expectation environment where you’ll gain experience quickly and work alongside some great colleagues, this could be the place for you. Just don’t expect clear communication, a fast track to promotion, or an ESOP that significantly impacts your day-to-day experience. If you do end up working here, I wish you luck—and lots of coffee. And hey, at least now you can’t say you weren’t warned.
