Pros

I got to work with some awesome colleagues and members. Worldclass people and programs.

Cons

Toxic, political environment created a lack of trust. Volunteer members and their personal agendas hindered the staff's ability to thrive and modernize the club.

Pros

Lifeguarding is an easy job. I get payed to sit around and watch people swim. It's not hard to balance work life and my social life. Everybody is extremely friendly and professional. I don't get micromanaged by a supervisor. There are benefits if I work full time, a 401K, and free food. The training is in depth, so we are some of the best qualified lifeguards.

Cons

They recently took away our radios, so an already dull job has become even more boring. Not having NPR to listen to makes it hard to stay awake for opening, which is 4:42 AM. The club manager makes over $800,000/year, while I make less than $12/hour. The wage that was chosen mimics other lifeguarding jobs, but the MAC can afford more. The 2-5% pay increase does not cover increase in rent. There are frequent emails from my supervisors with test questions. Management comes around and quizzes lifeguards about their acronym for customer service. Our uniform does not allow us into certain parts of the building. We are not allowed under any condition to walk through the front door. We have to go though a different entrance that is a 7 minute walk from the West Pool.

Pros

The area is clean, PTO, and flexible hours.

Cons

Although you get paid better than most gyms in Portland, most gyms are not ran by millionaires. They have not increased rates of personal training in over a decade even though those who are paying for it can easily afford it. They will claim they are the most prestigious in all of the north west without prestigious pay. There is a lack of diversity and with that comes constant microaggressions if you are anything but white. You will have to complain about sexual harassment from a coworker multiple times before anything gets done, and even then he still won't get fired.
