Pros

Worked here over 6 years. Very cool place to work for a long time. Felt like an alternative medicine, small, diy org, very hands-on. Zendo was a great project. Overall a laid-back environment, remote-friendly, good health benefits, relaxed time off policy. I had a great manager who shielded me from a lot of the bad politics at the higher end. I didn't feel overworked, but some people did. Must have strong boundaries. Founder was very involved and you got time with him.

Cons

Founder gave up his hiring and firing rights, some bad hiring decisions were made, and things went downhill fast. Laid off 30% of the company unexpectedly, which caused huge drop in morale. Ironic for a mental health care organization. Top talent was run out prior to the layoffs, people who'd been employed 9+ years. Their work was increasingly given to contractors who didn't do good work and didn't understand the mission or history of the company. Management is poor. Extremely woke Bay Area culture. MAPS hires for skin color, not for competence, which creates a lot of problems. If you hate white people and men you'll do fine, if not you'll probably be biting your tongue in anger a lot. Perfectly fine to hate on whites, Christians, and males in meetings. But that's corporations in 2023 for you. Regularly had social media controversies due to their woke postings - managers would see this, but they are out of touch with the American public and didn't understand why identity politics is upsetting to people. This environment can be very suffocating and feels hostile if you have questions about or aren't fully on board with progressive agenda. MAPS had a good initial vision but has been taken over by pharma sharks. It's sad to see.

Pros

It used to be a great company with culture, compassion, and values.

Cons

Company out of nowhere let go more than 15% of the company in the most cold, calculated, corporate way. That is not mental healthcare for all - they created so much anxiety, confidence damage and overall state of depression. Felt inhumane the way it was done especially when it is a mental health company. Company is not upholding it's mission and values to include everyone (including it's current and past employees).

Pros

Collaborative, kind, extremely smart. Everyone at the org cares deeply about the mission and each other.

Cons

Lack of transparency around money in/money out lead to unexpected layoffs. They over hired before funds were secured so a lot of folks lost their jobs. Rick is an icon but he wreaks havoc on the progress and professionalism that is needed to get this important org to a successful, future-ready place.
