Worst place to work

Pros

Free food, near the T, free parking

Cons

Working at Modo Labs was the worst experience of my career, the issue being with senior management. One of the previous reviews on here is spot-on: I, too, found it to be a sexist and abusive work culture. Also, there was lots of turnover between people quitting or being fired. Don't bother.

Pros

Free parking and location is decent (Red Line)

Cons

Senior management mistrusts employees off the bat, bi-polar manages - can micromanage to a degree that negatively impacts getting daily work done (decisions made, approvals, etc.) yet infrequent team-focused management, have fired people on the spot based on hearsay information (after initially heavily investing in those employees), and known to belittle and berate employees on a swoop-in basis (likely because they had just had a bad meeting with the venture capital investors). Lack of basic structure/business processes/access to information/etc. in several departments causing significant inefficiencies and confusion for employees.

Supported and Surrounded by Great People

Pros

I will soon be celebrating 6 years with Modo Labs. I am fortunate to be supported and surrounded by a great team of people, many of whom also celebrate longevity with the company and many whom are also women. As a single mother, I (and my daughter) have benefitted greatly from the flexibility Modo has granted me, that of working remote from my home office and accommodating my need to limit travel in my daughter’s younger years. During my time with Modo, I have also been given opportunity to better my skill set, work strategic projects, and advance my position. I feel supported by peers and mentored by management & executives. And, I appreciate the benefits of being with a start-up: ready access to executives and founders, and the ability to influence direction and effect change at all levels. I feel valued and respected at Modo, and I value and respect my Modo family in turn. For anyone considering a position here, I offer only encouragement. Come join the family and be a part of the exciting ride as we take it to the next level.

Cons

Being a part of a start-up’s growth is exciting, but not without its growing pains. I’ve seen certain departments experience more turn over than others (not uncommon in high tech sales and marketing), but I feel these changes have also provided Modo with the opportunity to build stronger teams in those areas.
