Toxic Place To Work

Pros

They are an acquisition machine, with process and procedure established to consume companies rapidly. The Netherlands influence is intensely strong, meaning that there is a process established for everything. This can be quite good for some things. It is suffocating and extremely excessive for most things. I’m surprised there wasn’t a process manual yet for how to most effectively tie your shoes, organize the breakroom fridge, and the like.

Cons

Process, efficiency, and EBITA are valued above all else. People are just a means to an end. And they will assign you twice as many projects as any human can handle. Worst yet, hard work is not recognized because ‘everyone is doing it.’ The glue holding this company together is its remaining people commiserating about how bad it is. Plus, even a good manager who cares is not able to advance people much through the process machine. Employees are running away at breakneck speed right now!

Pros

Most people are fun and nice people - lots of nights out with karaoke and drinks Netball team and lots of social opportunities for more junior staff Charities supported and bake sale initiatives Big and exciting clients and projects Induction abroad and true international work environment Steep learning curve - but lots to learn Proper research compared to competition, knowledgeable people Good graduate scheme and opportunities Short term successes are celebrated Office and location are great - free breakfast, fruit, soda and snacks and often pizza

Cons

Lack of proper HR management by trained managers is the biggest issue Favouritism by management - not based on competency or skill, rather nepotism and 'inside crowd' mentality Patronizing culture speaking of 'the kids', 'minions' when referring to junior staff and even gender/race related commenting happen often Often felt like being in high school one day and kindergarten the next Low retention rate - good people tend to leave (escape) soon after they join Recently lost many people who were there for longer by change in short term management approach and some people were even bullied out by offering impossible options Due to low retention, recruitment is a daily chore and the 'growth' is not actual growth but constant back-filling. Which also results in constantly having to train new people (who then don't stay) Salaries aren't great (nor consistent per level) and so-called bonus system is a joke Complete disconnect and discrepancy with other offices and no long-term thinking Ruthless with new client directors who don't hit their targets within a year Operations team in India is very difficult to work with and part of daily frustration Not delivering on automation promise - systems are very clunky

Pros

- People are nice and there are some very intelligent people in the business

Cons

- Work-life balance is a big issue here. While the whole industry suffers from this (as is agency life), MetrixLab seems to overwork and underappreciate a large number of their staff . 11pm internal emails and weekend working is the norm. - Training and development is promised but often in the form of there generic/dry training videos and little on-the-job training - Seniors seem to take credit when jobs go right and are extremely quick to throw juniors under the bus when they go wrong - Very little exposure to clients in comparison to other agencies. If you like data tables and hate interacting and actually solving clients problems, this might be the place for you - Big sink or swim mentalities
