Pros

- Being part of a growing company giving people opportunity to grow with them - Being able to do what you like and are good at - Interesting projects to work on - No office politics, short lines - Good atmosphere in the office

Cons

Due to speed of growth, some attention to detail and process may fall through the cracks. If you are looking for a place with lots of structure, processes and where people hold your hand all day, this may not be the place for you. It's very much a hands-on, proactive attitude and self learning environment.

Pros

Meddbase's CTO has developed the library LanguageExt. This adds functional features to C# such as support for monads. So writing code at Meddbase in C# is more like writing code in Scala or Rust. The book Functional Programming in C# was inspired by the LanguageExt library and with over 5 million downloads from NuGet is used by functional programming enthusiasts working in C#. The company over the years has developed novel in-house solutions. They developed a web framework in ASP.NET for making Progressive Web Apps that behave like how Angular/React now work, but this was before these frameworks even existed. Other things, their own domain specific languages , distributed document database (again, before NoSQL became popular) and their own messaging system called echo based on the actor model to name a few. Meddbase has received new investment and is growing. In this process they're modernising their app and starting new side projects using Haskell and PureScript, although the vast majority of work is still being done in C#. They have a culture of sharing knowledge and mentorship. With smart people in the company, there will be many opportunities to become a better developer. Management trusts their developers and give us a lot of freedom to propose and own our ideas – parts of the application are written in F#, and newer sites have been developed using Angular, React and Vue. The managers are all senior devs who know what they're doing. One other benefit of the company is that developers don't have to become managers to progress - they can progress to principal engineers becoming experts in their chosen domains.

Cons

Some of the code is old, written years ago. Understanding and working with this code one of our developer’s calls “archaeology”. Because we have custom in-house solutions, we can’t always go on Stack Overflow or Google our questions.
