Pros

There is very little to praise.

Cons

Spending your own money to fund Matcos business in the field, waiting for weeks to get reimbursed. Constantly getting yelled at by franchise owners who should never have been put in business. Getting demoralized by RM's telling you that you suck at life and you need to spend your own money to motivate the franchises to spend more money with corporate. Matco is not a tool company, but a finance company. They will squeeze every ounce of life out of you. You are expected to take your company phone on vacation and work. Expected to work daily, sometimes from 5am to 6-7-8PM just depends on the day. Evening meetings, weekend meetings, also the COMP plan is a bold face lie. You will never make what they sell you on. The current opening list salary range from 130-150K. lies and more lies from upper management,.

Pros

Great entry level job. Good for fresh out of school professional experience and salary with a decent benefits package but that is about it.

Cons

Many of the reviews I have read sound disgruntled but I will say there is a lot of truth behind the poor ones and the good ones stink of "corporate". When I first started with this company I swore by the people and the product and the philosophy but it was a different company then. Over the years there has been a steady decline in moral internally. Many great young minds have been ousted because of aging upper management fearing for their jobs. The company is run extremely lean. I have seen people let go just to have their entire workload dumped in the lap of others with no raise stamped as "temporary" but truthfully having no replacement in mind. Good employees are leaving in droves in search of the pay they actually deserve and most are much happier elsewhere. In simple terms if you work here you're most likely getting underpaid, that is unless you hold the position of a director, in which case your bonus is based on how good you are at undercutting your respective department budget. I personally worked my way from the ground up from the responsibility of showing up on time and answering phone calls to being in charge of almost $300k worth of tool truck and inventory and managing a territory for literally $1.50 more than what I started with. Do they promote from within? Sure, sometimes. Will they pay you competitively? Not if they can help it.
