Pros

The single pro here is the people. The agency team is full of talented people who care about what they do and the people they work with. The call center has a lot of kind, devoted people who are 100% dedicated to the well-being of each other and the company. People want to work hard and do the right thing.

Cons

The bad: Managers are told their teams don’t care and that missing deadlines is a fireable offense, even though teams have no input into deadlines, so timelines are impossible. Leadership touts flexible and collaborative workspaces, but blames teams working from the breakroom for being lazy. Owners push religion on employees, making it impossible to escape invitations to Bible study, in-meeting questions about belief in God, and in-meeting rants about how anyone who doesn’t believe in God is denying the truth and won’t ever be happy. Employees who leave are labeled "cancers" instead of owners accepting feedback. Employees are told in front of peers that a mistake means they "chose not to do their job" and even small mistakes are brought up ad nauseum. Owners believe the agency, which is working above max capacity, is over-staffed. PTO is next to nothing. Owners post on social about the importance of work/life balance, but reprimand employees for taking walks. Valuable employees have been pushed to tears over the viciousness of feedback. The worse: Members of leadership are pitted against each other; performance details shared with peers. Owners berate managers in front of direct reports, and leaders are constantly accused of being untrustworthy and not doing enough even when working through evenings, weekends, and vacations. The owners are rarely on the same page, and the teams are blamed for the resulting confusion. Some teams are held to rigid standards when it comes to deadlines, timelines and work hours. Other teams are allowed to do whatever they want despite lower performance. If a new employee gets sick, they are questioned about whether this is "normal.” Owners continuously ignore reports that the team is overworked; don't allow already strapped teams to hire more, but allow underperforming teams to bloat. 24/7 availability is expected, and even individual contributors are expected to work on vacation; phone calls, texts and emails are sent at all hours, then team members are blamed for “doing too much” if something falls through the cracks. The totally inexcusable: Fat jokes, terrorist comments made to Muslim employees, the female owner of the company discussing the ridiculousness of feminism and the me-too movement. Owners make inappropriate comments about the appearance of interns, innuendos about employees, and racists comments. Regardless of your feelings, they shouldn’t be discussed at work. Owners openly pressure employees to date their friends. Long-term, quality employees are let go on whims, leaving managers to fire them over the phone without warning. Hourly employees are allowed (or encouraged) to work off-the-clock. HR is powerless because they report directly to the CEO, who sees any argument as "disrespect." Owner sends scathing emails about employees to peers; expects non-managers to take on leadership duties in the absence of a manager, but doesn't reward them with title, pay, bonus, or recognition of the extra work. Employees are told in front of teams that they are worthless.

Thank you for taking the time to offer feedback. We wish your experience was as fulfilling as most others and regret that your career at Marketopia didn’t end as we had hoped. Marketopia values every opinion, including both past and current team members. What is most disheartening is that this is the first we are hearing of any of the listed items despite consistent efforts to gain feedback through 1:1 meetings, leadership meetings, surveys, open-door policies at all levels, and exit interviews. We do indeed have a very talented team that works hard to support each other and deliver extraordinary results for our clients. Our team is a huge part of process development and deadline creation to ensure our clients receive the service and results they deserve. We work hard to continuously improve processes and invest in expanding the team as workload increases. Inclusivity is extremely important to Marketopia and is in fact one of the things that make our team so special. We welcome, and have, team members of all races, religions, sexual orientations, backgrounds, education levels, and political affiliations. Our core values define what we believe as a company: we strive to be results-oriented, growth-minded, #oneteam, live the brand, and exemplify the golden rule. Positive team members that demonstrate these core values tend to thrive and truly love Marketopia. We are proud to be a team that supports each other and works hard to collaborate and find solutions to make each other and our services better every day. We want the absolute best for every current and past member of our team. We truly appreciate you sharing your thoughts and perspectives.

Bait and Switch

Pros

The team members are the only pro as they are truly the fuel behind any of this business.

Cons

Do not trust the bait and switch you are about to or thinking of enduring. Marketopia is extremely powerful at propaganda, but when you boil it down, you will experience nothing but stress, toxicity and find yourself leaving or wishing to leave within months. The amount of positions open at any given time are solely due to high turn over, not growth. Listen to the negative reviews, as the positive ones are used to burry the truth.

First, thank you very much for your feedback as we welcome both positive and negative to help us improve. We do indeed have amazing team members, thank you for recognizing them! I am sorry your time at Marketopia ended differently than you expected. Our clients and team are both performance-based and we desire to give our best to our clients every day. To most, that is motivating and the rewards of higher pay for better performers are cherished. For the few, the push to grow and succeed and perform for our clients is counter to what they feel is best. Our clients deserve the best in us and our team members deserve the best teammates! Our company is growing very quickly, 20% in 2020 and projected 30%+ in 2021, so much of the hiring is related to client demands. We thank you for your contribution and hope you are able to find a company that matches your goals and objectives perfectly! We wish you nothing but the very best.

You won't be happy there

Pros

There's lots of variety in the work you do, so you'll develop a collection of great skills. Most of the clients are nice and easy to work with. A lot of great, fun, talented people work there. Office is really nice. Company lunches.

Cons

Pretty much everything else. You'll be micromanaged within an inch of your life. Expectations are impossible to meet, and you will rarely if ever be recognized for good work, but you will be criticized for every little thing. It's worse for managers. It can't be escaped, because it comes from the owners of the company. They do not treat their employees as humans. The treatment I've seen and heard about is atrocious. They expect anyone on salary to work off the clock on every single project, and will still criticize them for not working hard enough and not "caring." They will not outright ask hourly employees to work underpaid overtime, but they will strongly imply that you should if you care about your job and the company. They demand loyalty but do nothing to earn it. If you bring up any issues, it will be turned back on you for not working hard enough. Promotions are dangled in front of employees to make them take on extra work, but never given. I've never dealt with anxiety until I worked there. I made some great friends there, and the skills I learned helped me move forward to a great place in my career, but I have to be honest considering how many fake reviews are posted for this company. You will not be happy there. (I can only speak for the agency - the call center employees seemed to have a better experience overall and really enjoy their work.)

Thank you for the kind words about our team, office, and benefits! I am sorry that your experience failed to live up to your expectations. We promote from within every month, 8 so far in the past 5 weeks alone! We have team members that grow, excel, and deserve to be recognized, so we love promoting from within! We are hiring very quickly and work hard to always ensure we have enough team members so nobody has to work more than 40 hours a week. Overtime sometimes is needed to meet short-term needs, but we ramp up hiring to ensure it isn't something that is needed from anyone long-term. We pay overtime for every hourly employee, every time they work overtime. That is why they are hourly...so we can track and pay every moment they work. We have never and would never request any employee do any unpaid work and have policies that perhaps we not followed to track every hour worked because if there were hours tracked, they would have always been paid. We are sorry you somehow got that impression and will do more to ensure that nobody ever feels that way again. Thank you for that feedback! We have a strong growth culture where we help our team grow personally and professionally so they live better lives and improve their ability to help our clients grow. We want the very best for our employees and clients. To most that is both appreciated and very rewarding, but to others, it may not fit their personal or professional goals. We thank you for the feedback and everything you did while on the team and wish you nothing but the very best in the next step of your professional career!
