Pros

Bad company. Some people in estimating department think they own the company and only hire their relatives .They don't respect their employees and they don't even hire through anyone through reference so all previous reviews are written by relatives

Cons

company is full of old people

Pros

The managers give you the freedom to complete your responsibilities as you see fit. The Marek Family sees their workforce as the most valuable asset. During the Recession they did not let go of any of the office infrastructure. Unfortunately, many field employees were let go but in their defense the construction industry is prone to this to begin with based on the size and amount of projects that are being built at a given time. As far as I know, Marek has the only workforce development program in the region. They actively recruit young men and women to train them in the interior finishing trades (with compensation) before they even set foot on a construction project. They believe in what they do and actively work to make the construction industry a better career path.

Work-Life Balance, in my opinion, is not up to par. Many of the managers have been with the company for 30 to 40+ years. I feel they have this "Old-School" mentality of a one income family. Where 1 person works and 1 person handles the home-front. Obviously, this doesn't exist like it did 40 years ago. Leaving home at 6am and getting home at 7pm is frustrating. Additionally, while technology is embraced by the owners, many of the managers struggle with it or flat out decide not to adopt it leaving some of the younger employees stuck in a state of having to tailor their work, reports, etc. into something the older generation can comprehend. Usually, pen and paper...

Pros

Talent development is awesome! Shannon teaches a class called “Emerge,” and if you can apply the tools (I couldn’t) it would be a great place to work.

Cons

Unable to apply teachings from the Leadership class. My Director would throw temper tantrums and hang up on me. She would punish managers and employees for asking for PTO saying it was during a critical IT project. Only after she made me and the person that reported to me cry, did she give us a timeline of when we could take PTO. She said her door was always open but she would not help (I was new) when I asked.
