Pros

Hard to remember any given what the company devolved into by the end

Cons

Mismanaged for years. The few good people there when I started either voluntarily left or were terminated over a few years time New management is duplicitous and demonstrates a complete lack of empathy towards employees Will lie to your face if it serves their purposes Ridiculous, around-the-clock demands ER-level stress for middling pay Work/life balance a joke; no boundaries The first and only truly toxic work environment that I have experienced in my professional career. Save yourself and pass on this company

Terrible Company

Pros

The only pro to working for this company is their newly introduced day 1 benefit enrollment.

Cons

There are only negative things to say about this company. First of all, the training company wide is atrocious. It starts with hourly associates and only gets worse the higher you get. Store associates are given three days of online training and then released into the wild to run shifts all by themselves with only the knowledge they picked up during the online modules and are expected to run shifts alone often for extended periods of time. Store managers get four weeks of “training” during which they do not receive any training how to hire or fire associates, approve payroll, or really any training on the MAPCO HRIS platform. They talk very highly of their advancements opportunities, which are very few and far between to begin with. Even once you have poured your blood sweat and tears into this company and acquired advancement you are simply told that you are good enough and given a drastic demotion. Training at the corporate level doesn’t exist. They take somebody with no experience in a position and expect them to perform well with hardly any training or performance feedback. They want to talk about their “customer-centric” environment and then bring in a VP from Dollar Generally because their employees are so people focused.

MAPCO functions as a struggling start-up company

Pros

The team I worked with and coworkers from other teams were wonderful to work with. Decent amount of paid time off. Complimentary drinks provided and convenient store located at corporate office.

Cons

First and foremost, bad/poor ratings at the store level are a direct reflection of how the corporate office functions. This company needs a complete overhaul on its leadership and it’s processes. Communication is a challenge for the entire company. As a result, direction is muddy and employees end up reworking the same projects over and over again until they can track leadership down to “figure out” what they really want. The amount of work load increases more often than not without being provided the adequate amount of support or direction from leadership; sometimes even without the proper technologies or resources to complete tasks as well. They believe in “stretching” their employees to do more, stay late, and provide better results without providing basic incentives that employees value. i.e. salary increase, title change, etc. They preach transparency and TRUST within the company, but actions from leadership and HR department do not back up these ideals. They are open to providing “constructive criticism,” but not taking it themselves. They nurture poor leaders, and look the other way when said leaders do something that may be frowned upon in any given situation. High turnover is a result of this. Perception is everything at this company. They believe that the amount of hours you put in, specifically working long hours at your desk is a direct reflection of the results employees put out. Work life balance is not a high priority as a whole , even if they say so. AKA, it’s an extremely gossip driven culture and people don’t know how to mind their own business. Overall, stressful environment with short deadlines due to poor planning. The company was like this even on the first day I started. And despite all the conversations and efforts made to try to improve on this front, very little has changed.
