Pros

There really aren’t any I can think of...

Cons

During the initial stages of training, you are wooed by the unwavering charms of the training coordinators and fluffed up earning potential... and what starts off as a blissful two weeks where you refresh the basics of technical writing quickly transitions into a continuous spate of unreasonable expectations further worsened and unforced by constant degradation of ones skills masked as “constructive feedback”. In reality and beneath the surface... you are inundated with unreasonable expectations when juxtaposed with the pathetic salary (or pittance of you will) that you get in exchange for your efforts. Additionally, the culture perpetuates unhealthy habits - that is, working your fingers to the bone for commission that is otherwise taxed with no reasonable account for the tax structure. Mango5 is the epitome of a corrosive working environment that leaves you far worse than it found you. The expected output is two drafts a day - seemingly easy at first glance. But two drafts a day x five days a week x seven day revision period for each draft (which may be up to three variables depending on the order) - each week soon becomes overwhelming. While there are a few line manager that will provide support and have your back, in reality the terrain at M5 is reminiscent to Orwell’s Animal Farm. In essence, the expectations vs compensation leaves one with the word “sweatshop” lingering in their mind. The “show runners” are aware of this - hence the mental health awareness emailers frequently circulated under the guise of a people-first organisation. If you value your mental health and perhaps, you’d like to make some cash with hopes of saving a buck or two, Mango5 is not for you, as the only thing you will walk away with is anxiety, imposter syndrome, and exhaustion like nothing you’ve ever felt.

Working as a Resume Reviewer at Mango5 turned out to be an unexpectedly frustrating and misleading experience. When I joined, I was excited to put my writing skills to good use and help clients craft impressive resumes. However, the reality was far from my expectations. One of the most disheartening aspects of this role is the complete disconnect between the job title and the actual responsibilities. They hire writers, but the job requires very little writing. It's more about following templates and guidelines than using any creative or linguistic skills. It's like they dangle the promise of writing but hand you a paint-by-numbers kit instead. Mango5's approach to feedback is bewildering. They issue warnings for minor infractions that, in any other workplace, would warrant a gentle reminder at most. It creates an unnecessarily stressful environment where employees constantly feel like they're walking on eggshells. The company's primary focus seems to be money and targets. They prioritize profits over their employees' well-being. This becomes evident in the management's unorganized approach and upper management's cold and unnecessarily corporate behavior. You're just a cog in the machine, and personal growth or job satisfaction are not part of the equation. The job expectations are clear: be an absolute robot with no feeling. The lack of empathy and the stifling work environment make it far from a good experience. If you're seeking a position where your writing skills and individuality are valued, Mango5 may not be the right fit for you. In summary, my time as a Resume Reviewer at Mango5 left me disillusioned and disheartened. The misleading job title, the unnecessary warnings, the profit-driven focus, and the cold management all contributed to an overall unsatisfactory experience.
