It's a Joy and a Struggle

Pros

Pay is higher than most ESL companies, good students, platform easy to use, great opportunity to work from home, no-penalty sick policy

Cons

If you take a look at the ME facebook page you can see that the way to get ahead in this company is to self promote through their facebook page, and to agree with the company no matter what you truly feel. The competition among the teachers is exhausting. For those of us who don't have the time to stay on facebook all day we are left behind. I personally know teachers who work MANY free hours to get noticed with the company; I'm not working for free. The way that they promote is frustrating. You are told that you need to improve on things to get promoted, but once you improve they only find more things for you to change....This isn't for everyone, though. Some of the lucky few get promoted right at 100 classes, while some go through the endless cycle of feedback meetings, changing and more feedback meetings. Students also have the ability to rate you 1 star for anything. Very difficult to contact someone from the company. Takes days to get responses, they have an office in Nashville but don't utilize it for teacher support, pay is usually incorrect or docked inappropriately

Worst Company- Liars

Pros

Flexible schedule Great cancellation policy

Cons

THEY ARE LIARS stay far away from this company! Look up teacher reviews for Magic Ears on youtube and you will find out that all of the good reviews on Glassdoor written for them was by being bribed by the company; most of the good reviews are extremely false. You NEVER get booked first couple of months yes then after that you rely heavily on standbys which ARE NOT guaranteed. Waste of your time They micromanage the teachers and they want you to be overly happy, your voice is always gone from working for them. No one gets fast tracked into hiring within 48hrs; theres only ever been one person since they launched get hired in 48hrs and it takes about 2-3 weeks to get officially onboard.

Misleading

Pros

* Flexible schedule * Easy Money * Have their own teaching platform

Cons

* Support team only responds when they want too. * If you are on standby for a class they will transfer it to you and will call you again while you are teaching to pick up another class but you can't answer because they are calling you during the class they already transferred and if you don't pick up they will doc your pay EVEN THOUGH they just transferred you a class to take. * They are misleading about saying their in need for teachers. They rarely schedule you and only have you booked for standbys which is a waste of your time. Not guaranteed a booked slot. * I believe that teaching should be fun and interactive but there is a fine line between being a tutor and entertainer. The parents and Magic Ears only wants you to entertain the child versus actually teach them and correct their mistakes and Magic Ears basically agrees with that which is frustrating. No matter how hard you work, and how positive and interactive you are for the kids if you aren't silly enough or goofy enough then you'll get bad ratings. Like I said, I don't mind having a fun class but there is a fine line between teaching and entertainment. I am an experienced tutor/teacher for over 5 years not an entertainer. * They say they are culturally diverse but I don't see that in any of the training videos or platform slides.
