Typical Asian company, shady business practices

Pros

Really relaxed environment. Little to no chance of getting fired. Company is heavily sales oriented, so if you're in Sales, you might do all right.

Cons

Shady business practices to cut corners, including delayed salary payment, deducting vacation time if you don't work a full 8 hours each day, not providing comp time for days worked over the weekend, however frequent. You also need to clock in & out each day (including in & out for lunch), even if you're a salaried exempt employee. Taiwanese company & culture. Management just takes orders from Taiwan headquarters and doesn't really know what they're doing. Projects always seem to be given last minute, so everything always feels rushed. Not much room for growth. Company likes to promote based on seniority and not based on qualification. Because they don't fire anyone, the company ends up accumulating a bunch of lazy & unqualified employees. If you're a conscientious & good worker who actually cares about doing your job well, you will not be appreciated.

Pros

Not sure where to really start...I applied to this place because my last position was hell on earth and I knew any company would be better in the mean time. Look at the below pros: - It was next to some good food places, a dispensary, the mall and the gym so that was something to look forward to - I made some great, long lasting friendships during my time in the mkt dept - Seems to be a management vs employee type of environment which means no one's competing to take my job away - 2-3 hour lunch breaks were nice - Being able to use verbal language was never frowned upon - I could wear joggers/sweats and no one seemed to care - Envision (meant doubling up on a coffee run or getting costco gas)

Cons

Let this section be lengthy. The company visions have changed over the years. I can't speak for other depts, but marketing low balls you from the start. Aside from cheap upper management, this is not a company that knows how to run things. They tend to nurture the dumb and useless here. Then they get rewarded with assistants while the hard working individuals get stuck with more work. There's no real job duties for anyone. I've seen people get on their hands and knees (marketing dept) to wrap pallets, clean the warehouse, move boxes and to do other manual labor. This team tends to run the show and do the behind the scenes support, but never gets appreciated. Instead, they have a witch who micromanages to the bone. There is absolutely no trust between supervisor and team members. It's sad. This person of power is pretty brutal. I've been called names of other employees... I've also been called a "she" before... Absolutely no respect for anyone. When she's angry, you can hear she scream and stomp her foot like a 4 year old. I hope she doesn't pop a blood vessel or get a heart attack from all this unnecessary anger.

Pros

Best part about working at MSI, friendly coworkers. Fairly laid back environment (Warning: not really a pro, I'll go into more detail later). Knowledgeable colleagues who have been in this industry for a long time. You get 3 times the experience working here. You know those jobs that ask you for 10+ years of experience? Just multiply your time here by 2. You will be doing twice the amount of work a normal office employee is expected to do. Bi-annual bonus if you are good at what you do.

Cons

Negotiate your pay before getting hired or do not take a job here. You will regret it. Big time. The laid back environment can set you up for failure. You have to set goals for yourself and motivate yourself to go above and beyond or you become complacent and you will be stuck where you are. You are going to be doing more than you expect to do. The task expected of you for your position is false, you will be doing a lot more than you bargain for. Sales & Marketing are extremely short handed for the amount of work expected from the team. You will be doing 2 or 3 people's job. As a new employee you either know what you need to do or quickly learn how to do it. Working here is like learning how to swim. You go to a swimming class and the instructor kicks you into the deep end of the pool. You'll either drown or you'll learn to swim quickly. Do not expect managers/supervisors to properly train you. The managers/supervisors are all working 2 peoples job already and training new hire is an added bonus. Make friends quick and learn what you can as fast as possible
