Pros

Being in the financial industry affords MFS the ability to offer top of the line health insurance and benefits. Bonus and salary numbers had previously lagged well behind the industry average but have recently been adjusted to market average levels. There are a lot of good people on the ground level. If you are on the right team, you will enjoy the good culture you've heard about.

Cons

Our upper management is dying to maintain the culture that MFS was previously heralded for, but their refusal to acknowledge the changes in the world and the workforce is only widening the gap between them and the people who are doing the real work. MFS is very slow to adopt new technologies and you will be limited by what is available to you. Out of an abundance of caution, your laptop will be loaded with software to make sure you don't do anything to endanger the company. It will make launching some applications take an excruciating amount of time. You won't have access to GitHub or other useful tools and forums.

Pros

Money - Salary, bonus, benefits

Cons

Soul-crushing experience. Be prepared to not know what is expected of you and remain at the same job/level for years. It's who you know, not what you know. Nepotism rules. It's like traveling back in time to a place where a 100-year company is stuck in its ways and doesn't see the tar pit looming right in front of it. "That's the way we've always done things" is not what you want to hear in an era of consolidation and innovation. Mean people who treat others as if they are disposable. Most of the company has been there 20 to 30 years and there are so many layers that it smothers you. Dysfunctional doesn't even explain the culture.
