Cons

I need to write this review because I wish I could have been warned before wasting my time. This is by far the worst place I have ever worked, it was a toxic environment that engendered low employee morale. The CEO is blatantly rude, domineering, and often berated staff about their work. I was absolutely appalled with the management style. So many of the staff had obviously lost a tremendous amount of confidence while working there as a result. The CEO was an extreme micromanager with no ability to trust employees, or allow senior staff to work autonomously, and would often favour and compare staff to each other to further undermine their confidence. The company culture was below average, and discouraged friendly collaboration amongst co workers, many of my colleagues rarely felt they could have a say without being shut down or heavily criticised. There were no Friday drinks, or even slight attempts to improve the culture, everything seemed as if it was just meant for show. Each team was overworked on jobs that weren't even being paid for by the client, meetings were constant and reworking of some documents was so inefficient and unnecessary on numerous occasions. Nothing could be sent without the CEO seeing it meaning deadlines were always missed, staff were working until the 11th hour, including weekends, and clients were unhappy. The agency classifies themselves as a digital agency, they're not, they're media and PR with a bit of social media advertising chucked in there. I've honestly never been so miserable in a workplace or job in my life and it shocked me. There is nothing down to earth, friendly or intellectually stimulating about the work environment, you'll have no opportunity to work with big ideas or be innovative, meaning learning skills that you can apply in your career is limited unless you wish to pursue PR. Every campaign is just about influencers and beauty shoots, there's no ground breaking marketing happening here. On a final note, it was proof of how miserable staff were when an entire team quit within a week of each other and the client stopped working with the company as a result.

Cons

Working at MAXMEDIALAB was honestly one of the worst experiences I have ever had in my life. In a small team with such a 'flat' structure, I felt as if I had absolutely no voice or authority over how I worked or team processes. Being the support of the multiple teams, I felt as if there was no consideration for my growth or development, and I was left overworked and frustrated that I was getting nothing from it. Every day I went to work feeling like a lifeless robot, and completely lost passion for my work and career. The actual strategy and work that was completed for clients was often rushed, out of scope, and elementary. The clients were poorly educated and groomed by the agency to become co-dependant and clueless about the processes involved in their requests, and would deal with someone telling them 'no' by going directly to the CEO to complain about that individual. The leadership here was toxic – department heads were hired to fill chairs, and contributed nothing to the actual work that was being completed. Account directors were brought on only to be treated like PAs. The CEO herself often put down members of her executive team in front of other employees. The communication between departments was a nightmare. PR would often pitch media ideas to clients and pass them on at the eleventh hour, overpromising on concepts of which they did not understand the full capacity. We would then be blamed when we couldn't meet expectations, leaving client relationships unnecessarily tense and wounded. There is absolutely no culture at all, with the only sense of community I experienced being the one created by other employees who also hated being there. Planned team days were cancelled last minute with no real reasoning, in my time with the agency there was not a single team building day or team event held. There was no sense of your workspace being your own, and it was common practice for the CEO to come in over the weekends and bin everything that wasn't owned by the agency. I honestly can't put into words how much I would warn anyone about this agency and everything it stands for – the CEO attempts to control her employees by putting them down and embarrassing them in front of clients just to make herself look good. And I was definitely not alone in these sentiments, given that a whole department resigned within the space of a month. Please be wary when considering working here, I left here with a heavily affected mental state, and feeling misled and disrespected by the agency.

Pros

Everyday I went home depressed, stressed and overworked. Met people who shared my hate for the work.

Cons

- Every thing you do is undermined - CEO might as well do everything because she micromanager - Undermined confidence to do my own role - Worst culture - Do not be persuaded by the bar - Should stick to PR only because they don't have agency knowledge
