Pros
Most of my co-workers cared about the mission, which was/is to grow manufacturing in Northeast Ohio. There's plenty of knowledge and experience to go around, and you can learn a lot just from listening to your colleagues.
Cons
MAGNET has the challenges of a typical small nonprofit organization - a disorganized sink-or-swim environment with office politics and some unfortunate tone deafness. Tenured employees are favored and newer employees are tested or otherwise treated badly; if you are not tenured, chances are you will carry the workload of two or more positions without the pay to match. During my time there, there was a distinct lack of trust between support employees (non-consultants) and the management team in that those employees were micromanaged on when and how they performed their jobs. There is also a general lack of boundaries when it came to work/life balance. While you have the option to work remotely, there is an "on-call" attitude where you are expected to be available to work even after you go home. I would frequently receive calls and emails from upper management well after 6pm with the expectation that I would respond and/or complete a task. At the end of the day, almost everyone had good intentions and good hearts - things were just executed poorly on a day-to-day basis. If you're the type to want a job where you can just perform your duties as you see fit and go home at the end of the day, this might not be the place for you.
