Good Company but not a good fit for me (Brentwood)

Pros

I would say that there is a level of work life balance here that is unparalleled. They accommodate employees who may prioritize their families. The environment is good and the people are friendly. There is a reason that so many of the people that work here have been here for so long.

Cons

The Commute: You will likely not be able to live near where you work. The average rent and home prices in Brentwood are sky high and the wages at this location are not high enough to make that sustainable. You will need to commute and that typically takes you north via the 405 or east on the 10 or Wilshire Blvd. That means you will likely spend an hour commuting one way each day. Organizational Structure is very top heavy: This means that opportunities to move up the chain are limited as there are so many senior employees with tenure and the organization obviously wants to limit the explosion of costs. Organizational Rigidity: They seem to reward seniority and tenure over drive and performance. Additionally, if you excel in your role, I would not expect to be rewarded for that. Raises and other awards seem to be either based on seniority or is flat across the board depending on your level. Compensation: Below Market 401K: Matching is below market at 4%. Investment options are good. Health Insurance: Lowe shoulders some of the burden for the employer and the employee ultimately ends up paying $40 to $100 per pay period (bi-weekly) depending on the plan chosen. However, if you add any dependents, your insurance costs will skyrocket as Lowe seems to only contribute to the employee's plan. Other Benefits: They do offer free life insurance which may be of use to anyone who is married or with kids. Managers: Managers often have trouble communicating important matters with staff.

Pros

The office is in a good location in Brentwood, good benefits, work-life balance is respected, low rate of turnover, nice office space environment.

Cons

Slow pace of decision making by senior management, little opportunity for advancement with employees staying in the same position for a long time, old school management style and favoritism.
