Pros

The daily sandwich van probably.

Cons

So many 'cons'. The reviews are admittedly a mixed bag, comprised of people coerced into leaving the review in the first place, and those who went through hell while working there. On the face of it, the culture seems positive, but scratch just a little under the surface, and the toxins spill into every nook and cranny, originating firmly from the top. Despotic. Dictatorial. Imperius. Oppressive. Tyrannical, and entirely hypocritical, surrounding themselves with sycophants. It's not a nice place to be and unless you are one of the sycophants (and probably if you are too), your mental health will suffer. Too many decent people have suffered under this management.

It is great that you enjoyed the sandwich van. We have never coerced anyone into leaving a review. Our recent engagement survey shows that we have an engaged team that enjoy working with us and we are sorry that it wasn't a workplace that was right for you. We are an inclusive employer. We regularly ask our teams to contribute to decisions we make, a recent example of this being our change in dress code.

Pros

I wouldn't say there are any plus points to working at Lifesure

Cons

Plenty.....You only have to look at the number of job adverts to see the high turnover of staff. Which stems from the top with a dictatorial culture. Lifesure is convinced that it is a corporate style company, so continues to bleat out its focus of High Challenge, High Support programme. Designed to constantly push ALL staff to the limits. Each quarter you are challenged to complete 3 to 4 goals, which are constantly moving targets, set by Managers, trying to appease the MD. If you don't complete each detail, its tough love, you won't receive your bonus....better try harder next time! That's sure to spur you on. Everyone pretends it's a great leadership programme, but almost everyone despises the process. To top the strict bonus scheme, there is also a Performance Development Review each year, this is a highly critical process, to challenge a pay rise or keep you from progressing. The truth is, this is a small insurance company with nowhere to progress to, so whilst they are pushing you to the limits, there is nowhere for you to go. Lifesure has a 'caring' culture. Yes they do care, but only about the profits. They band this word around like it is going out of fashion, so why do we all feel so uncared for? This year it was announced there would only be a number of pay increases. Almost in the same breath, we receive our fortnightly MD email informing us of his new Porsche! Honestly, no one wants to hear about his latest holiday, what he eats for breakfast and how amazing he is in the gym! There is a serious lack of care and empathy at Lifesure, and until it is addressed they will continue to lose good, dedicated people.

Thank you for your review. Responding to each of your comments: Staff turnover We have had a higher than expected number of leavers, for various reasons over the last 12-18 months. It is unfortunate when we lose good people, however, in some cases it is great to have played a part in their development when they go on to bigger and better things. We have seen this happen. We have lost people due to personal issues, illness, relocation, among other reasons. We perform leaver reviews and always try to learn from what has happened and what we could have done to improve. High Performance Culture I think you may have joined the company when we had implemented this culture so you may have had it explained in detail when you joined us. It has been in place for around 5 years or so. It is designed to get the most out of every individual and support us to achieve results. It is about reaching your potential. It is founded upon science, evidence and theory that works. It allows our people to flourish, push themselves, make mistakes, learn and develop. Our APR and PDP process supports this giving every employee a bespoke development path that they are inspired by and agree to. It works. It doesn't work for every employee though, no culture will. Clearly it wasn't for you. Objectives Quarterly objectives are agreed in advance with each team member and provide focus across our business. They are reviewed monthly in one to ones and we provide support when people are finding them a challenge. They are not constantly moving targets. We pay bonuses upon their successful delivery and on the profits of the company too. Hence the focus on that for our shareholders, our people and our future. Again, no apologies for this approach from us. It's not true or fair to say that everyone despises this process. We get feedback that is positive all the time and our people receive recognition and bonuses for delivery, which I know they appreciate. Pay We benchmark salaries annually and review pay for all our people twice a year. Our people are competitively paid and we pay more than many local employers. In January 2022 everyone who had been with us for a year received a pay award. MD communication I write to the business explaining our progress every 2 weeks. I explain what we are doing, the challenges we face, I celebrate success and I provide help and tips on things like wellbeing, mental health, workload, training, support, resilience, to name only a few recent topics I have written about. I regularly invite all of our people to suggest topics and to share information I can include. I get feedback that this information is valued and well received. I put into the update a line each week sharing a little about my life to let people get to know me a little better and often to provide some humility and humour. I make no apologies for the car I choose to drive. Caring Care is our central value. We genuinely care about our people. There are many examples of us doing this. For example, we have a wellbeing policy, mental health first aiders, a clearly defined culture, goals, ambition, purpose, vision. We train our people using CII and other great methods and material. I hope that this goes some way to explaining what you have written and the frustrations you felt and I wish you all the very best for the future. We are not a small insurance company. We are a progressive, independent family insurance broker with 50 years of history and a bright future.

Pros

Apart from the free fruit and working with a handful of really good people, I honestly can't think of any pros. Although I'm basing my review on my experience in 2019, I have it on good authority that nothing is any better now.

Cons

Toxic environment Huge staff turnover Massive amount of game playing required if you want to survive Serious negative mental health impact One rule for one and one for another with antiquated dress code Good, hard-working people are treated very poorly and end up either being so fatigued that they give up caring about their job, or being bullied until they leave It's an absolute shocker of a workplace!

Thank you for your review. You were clearly not right for our culture and working with us was not right for you. We have mentioned and explained our culture in response to previous reviews on this site. We are sorry to read about you feeling that your work impacted on your mental health. We have two Mental Health First Aiders. Our MHFA's are completely trustworthy, and your allegation that they are not is baseless and completely untrue. We run employee surveys and have regular one-to-ones with all our team members. Our teams are engaged and we received feedback from a survey in 2021 that our people are generally happy. Of course we have things to work and will do so. There is no "game playing". Integrity is one of our values. To us it means doing the right things, no matter what. We live and breathe this every day at work and do the same for our customers. We don't tolerate game playing and there is no need to. Bullying is clearly unacceptable and has never even been used as a term in our business to our knowledge. It's totally unacceptable. You didn't report bullying whilst working here, I can state that for a fact. Nor has anyone else in the last 5 years. Our business is growing and our people strategy has been highly praised in 2020 by industry award bodies. We have employees who have been with us for over 30 years and continue to thrive and enjoy our culture. Our leadership team place our people and our caring value at the heart of everything they do. We are proud of our work environment and culture but we understand that not everyone is right for us and we are not right for everyone. Wishing you well for the future.
