Pros

I love working the animals here. There are a few that are hyper and unmanagble due to long-term shelter living and street experience. I absolutely love the volunteers who try their hardest to help.

Cons

Lifeline has a consistent problem with underpaying, undervaluing, and ignoring the problems of their staff. They will work you to death and complain when you start to become drained. There is a HUGE problem of workspace bullying abuse within the company. I have watched a director verbally abuse an employee. I have experienced MULTIPLE levels of workspace bullying abuse from my fellow employees, and I've witnessed it. The one time I contacted HR about an employee taking part in openly bullying and gaslighting me, the abuse only got worse. It got so bad it turned into mob-like workspace bullying. No one signs up for consistent drama, bullying, and harassment. In less than a year, my mental and physical health has deteriorated. It got so bad my family and friends started to notice it. It's even worse if you're a person of color. Please run!!!

Pros

The dogs are spectacular. You have a lot of freedom. You can make a real difference. Most fosters are great and working with so many spectacularly compassionate people is great. There are always learning opportunities

Cons

The way the foster department at DeKalb is run is a disaster. Management is a "boys club". Reporting dangerous and abusive behavior is not allowed here and you will be run out. I loved my job until the management of the depart changed. Myself along with others lives turn into exhausting and traumatic disasters. I had my supervisor roll her eyes at me constantly, take personal attacks at me, and put me in bad situations. The inherent stress of this job is manageable. The abusive behavior of those in power is not. Euthanasia decisions are biased and dangerous dogs are kept alive because those on the pathways team think they are cute. Most of the members on that team don't even walk or personally assess the dogs they are making life and death decisions for. A staff member on this board took a very dangerous dog home and threw "a keggger" with him present which is bad in so many ways. The treatment of volunteers and fosters is atrocious. These relationships are completely broken and no one seems to want to take the time to fix them.
