      Dog Care Snubbed

      Pros

      Can bring your dog to work. Coworkers are compassionate who do what they can with what they're provided.

      Cons

      Dog Care is obviously not a department of priority at this organization, which sounds absurd being that the dogs are the foundation of Leader DOGS for the Blind. Corners are constantly being cut while senior management continue to approve their own raises and bonuses that are higher than our salaries. Micromanagement and condescension seem to be what this place considers to be "leadership."

      People Who Genuinely Care

      Pros

      I always feel I have genuine support from any employee who I ask for help from or who is in charge of teaching me how to do my job and support my clients and dogs. I’ve never worked at an organization with such a great company culture. Most everyone who works here are extremely genuine and truly care about the mission. The organization is always working to improve its diversity, recently advocating in the community for an additional bus route to be added with the campus as a stop, in order to make the organization more accessible to clients and employees as well as the public. It’s great to feel that you are a part of somewhere that is truly making a difference in the community and across the globe. Everyone has their own opinion on how to do things, which is completely normal when teaching and training. The difference is how you perceive that and work it into something that feels the best way for your learner, animal or human. I always feel I am safe to advocate for myself and my dogs with no repercussions or retaliation.

      Cons

      Some other employees fail to take any accountability for themselves, making the company as a whole look poor and making it difficult to work sometimes. No organization is perfect. There are communication issues and some employees who are only here for a check and do not go above the call of duty for the clients or dogs. But that’s a very small part of an amazing place to work. Any issue I feel that has been brought to the attention of HR was addressed appropriately. The dogs do spend long nights in their suites, but it’s almost impossible to not leave them alone for an extended period of time. My personal dogs are left alone overnight in a different room in crates while I’m asleep for 8+ hours at a time, which is no different than the dogs here, who have access to a bed and water while they are alone.

      Innovative and forward looking, one of the world's best guide dog schools

      Pros

      New Canine Development Center- a beautiful new complex built to help the dogs in training to become better guides, and excellent for team and vet clinic. Innovation is abundant here in terms of technology as the organization looks ahead

      Cons

      It is competitive to get a job here, as it is an excellent work atmosphere and a small but highly passionate team.
