Pros

good salary, but at the expense of your morals

Cons

read the review titled "very misleading..." everything in there I concur with. You have the owner/managers/corporate people telling you how to be a doctor. They could care less about your clinical skills, but hey if you can convince someone who doesn't really even need glasses let alone Lasik to spend money they don't have then you are an asset. Also you are a big plus if you can get reviews out of people or if you take a good facebook live video! But If you are honest with people and lose a sale then your job is in jeopardy. They actually track stats like candidacy. If a doctor is turning too many people down that reflects bad. And so there are undoubtedly docs that are pushing people through they probably shouldn't just so their numbers stay high. And they preach "make lasik affordable"....get this by convincing people to take out high interest loans or extended payments. So in the end they are spending MORE money! but hey as long as the payment is low for a patient who got bait and switched then its all gravy. Make a sale for an elective surgery for someone who has bad credit, no job, tons of debt, etc. its about "doing as much lasik as possible"....not about actually doing what is best for patients.

Pros

If you are an OD looking to practice optometry, you may want to reconsider working here. I worked for the company for several years, and at first it seemed like a great opportunity. Like everyone else has mentioned on this site, the pay is basically the best part. The bonuses are generous, when and if you get them, but it does not make up for how they treat you as a person. If they didn’t have this bonus structure, then I would have left a long time ago and I think the turnover rate would be even higher than it currently is.

Cons

As the years have gone by, corporate has changed. The focus is no longer on the patients. At all. This job is simply sales and they will monitor every single metric imaginable. Micromanaging is putting it lightly. You will be put under a microscope every single day. I hate to say it, but they really have become a lasik mill. It doesn’t matter if patients have dry eyes, night vision issues, early cataracts, amblyopia, uncontrolled diabetes, unstable refractions, decreased best corrected vision, glaucoma suspects, the list goes on and on. They want everyone to be candidates. Contact lenses could be just taken out and they could have surgery the next day. Some patients aren’t even dilated and they can still have surgery. Other ODs often ask me how we approach monovision. I’m embarrassed to tell them they’re done simply with a phoropter demonstration. They don’t want patients to try contacts because “time is the enemy in lasik.” They’re afraid of losing the sale if patients don’t like it. LasikPlus does not believe in the standard of care and it shows how little they care about patients. It brings shame to being a doctor. LasikPlus will put you in ethical predicaments on a daily basis. Do you recommend what you feel is best for these patients and not have surgery or do you put on a fake smile, grit your teeth, and tell them they’re a fantastic candidate. This is one of the major issues I have with this company. Patients are literally just metrics. They are numbers on paper. They will look at the prescription and the topographies and that’s it. There is no context and everyone should have a firm recommendation that they are ideal candidates. Corporate wants every surgeon and every optometrist to practice exactly the same way. THEIR way. We all went to different schools and as a result should have slightly different opinions on how to practice medicine. LasikPlus is a group of lawyers and office workers trying to tell us how to be doctors. They do a brilliant job of sugar coating it too. My favorite line is “you are falsely imprisoning patients in their glasses and contacts when you make them a non-candidate.” aka “stealing from the company.” Another major frustration with the company is the amount of emphasis put on social media. It is a bigger priority than providing quality care to patients. It is mandatory for all employees and nonnegotiable. Have we forgotten that we are providing a medical service? It seems completely unprofessional as a medical provider to constantly badger patients to check in on Facebook, review us on Facebook, and record their procedure on Facebook. The majority of the online reviews are disingenuous star ratings in exchange for a free T-shirt. They just want the free marketing…

Pros

The pros are short and to the exact point. Since January 2016 every associate has received a bonus monthly for meeting the goals set forth. Other than that, I can't think of a single pro of working here.

Cons

The cons, is there a limit on the amount you can write here? Micromanagement, that is absolutely the biggest drawback of working for LCA. It all starts from the top and works its way down through the ranks. And by the top, I am referencing the CEO. While it's great that the company was purchased back by the founders, it's of no use if you don't let the employees do what you hired them to do, THEIR WORK. Having your finger in every little aspect of the business is great, but you need to let the employees do their job and stop micromanaging every detail. When it starts at the top, it has manifested down to all sr. level employees and directors. All you hear about are the pillars of success, but at what point are you successful enough as a CEO that you need to refocus and see things from an employee perspective? The profit is great, we know LCA is making money, but there is a thing called work / life balance, it's missing at LCA. B/c of the first issue, micromanagement, now the other powers to be feel they can control every aspect of a center employees life. Why would we tell a center they need to submit a request off 90 days in advance? I have never heard of a company requesting you submit a request 90 days out to use your PTO. It seems as if all we care about is how many patients we can shove through the door and how many likes or reviews we can garner from Facebook or Google. Show your employees some appreciation, stop the BS micromanaging at ALL levels and you could be 100x more successful, but until then it's the same garbage and a different day of the week!
