Pros

some genuinely kind and talented colleagues

Cons

Extremely poor working environment that hugely affects one’s physical and mental health Zero training, unstructured on-boarding process and disorganised ways of working Unprofessional and irresponsible management style with childish favouritism practice Ridiculously outdated technology and working process that fundamentally hinder efficiency Overwhelmingly unreasonable and exploitative workload paired with a sinister blame culture Treating employees like machines, even when employees are truly struggling and having to work overtime on a regular basis due to unrealistic targets and a complete lack of training, guidance and support, the blame is always directed to the individuals, who is not even provided with decent working conditions and efficient tools in the first place. Instead of looking into the root cause of all the mess and unpleasantness in the workplace and therefore actually invest in real training, better management and infrastructure improvement, they continue watching you drown in pressure and then blame you for not having good enough time management skills like an evil capitalist when you can no longer take your lunchbreaks. This is not a place for anyone who is truly passionate about languages and cares about quality. The goal is always to find a cheaper linguist and your own language skills will also be exploited, as on top of an already-unbearable workload, you will be constantly asked to check, review and even translate something for free as a favour, encouraged by a culture that makes people carry a moral burden to 'help out' despite being overwhelmed already. This is the place that will destroy your dreams and hopes for translation companies. I had never been this miserable and depressed in any other paid jobs before I joined them.

Pros

Some great people and junior talent, good exposure and experience for new graduates/students looking for internships. Generally pleasant/friendly working environment. Company treats its suppliers very well and has good relationships with the linguist community, hence the positive Glassdoor reviews from freelancers.

Cons

Poor infrastructure – daily frustrations re IT set-up and no one on hand to respond urgently to hardware issues. Physically not enough space for all staff so employees are essentially hot-desking on a daily basis. Toilet and kitchen facilities not sufficient. Employees generally undervalued. So-called "bonus" system thwarted by disorganised management team. At one point PMs/PEs did not know what target they were working towards until midway through the financial quarter. Company is always looking for the cheapest short-term fix. PMs/PEs grossly underpaid. As a result all experienced talent is leaving and all that remains are new graduates/interns who do not receive the appropriate training – expertise is poor as a result. Inexperienced middle and senior management who pride themselves on their “transparency” but in reality do not communicate issues on behalf of their employees. Employee feedback not taken on board e.g. repeated requests for employee survey fall on deaf ears. No HR department so no direct point of contact with which to raise issues directly. Company under previous CEO was highly efficient, but since acquisition in July 2018, staff are forced to wait far too long for sign-off on necessary steps by people who do not even work in the office or have any understanding of the industry.

Pros

Good office location. Cold water cooler.

Cons

The company is understaffed, so everyone is completely overworked, busy and stressed. The salaries are so low (lower than the London average by a mile), and any bonus is discretionary. Due to the fact that the management are appalling, slow to respond and disorganised, you are at their complete mercy for anything they wish to decide. Managers have no experience, there is no training throughout the company, meaning no one has any idea what is going on. There is no loyalty to the workforce, meaning my colleagues don't care about the business. Team members are rude, misogynistic and mean.
