A work in progress
Pros
Prior to the federal government's decision to limit international student numbers in Canada, this was an institution with some possibilities for the development of Northern Alberta. The Oil Sands is one of the major employers that continues to make the institution viable despite its low enrollment numbers. The salaries tend to be fairly high and include a northern allowance to offset the higher costs of living.
Cons
This is an institution that needs to work on its employee retention. In some departments the appropriate leadership is not in place. The remote nature of the college affects the attitude of staff towards best practices for higher education innovation. I personally did not experience a willingness to embrace new ideas and practices in my area.
