Pros

- Okay for temporary work, depending on what you need - Good place to intern - A vocal and sociable minority of employees are great to work with, very innovative and talented, and overall excellent to be around every day - Fun annual parties, if they don't fire you first

Cons

- Management is often critical and demanding, yet unhelpful and vague - Many of the team leaders are control freaks and know-it-alls who do not stop to think about your value (realized or potential) as an employee, let alone a human being - Underpaid - Undervalued - By engineers, for engineers, and only those that toe the line exactly - A majority of coworkers do not have proper hygiene, and (probably consequently) there is always an office illness. Not a strictly functional concern, but still a major setback and discomfort in a professional setting.

Pros

-Variety of project materials (wood, steel, masonry, concrete) -Variety of project types: retrofit existing buildings, new design, analysis, etc... -In general you will get exposed to all the stages of a project: schematic design, construction documents, etc... -Perform construction administration (CA) -Young office -You do pretty much everything (calculation packages, draw and send your details to the drafter), CA -You get a variety of experiences fast

Cons

-Office has a very high turnover rate, people continue to leave which is why the office is so young -Office is not profitable -No dental insurance -No vision insurance -You do get a HSA stipend but it still does not make up for it -Bonuses are poor compared to competing firms -Salary is poor compared to competing firms -No project reviews- no one really looks at your work -Performance reviews are nonexistent, you have to ask for a review and even if you get one, it's you reviewing yourself (your manager doesn't know what you did) or your manager just never gives you one or postpones it inevitably -No raise or bonus for getting your P.E. license -Drafting department is poor -No mentorship -Office is deeply segregated into pods (bunch of different teams) -Poor management -Some engineering decisions on projects are questionable -Lack of professionalism

Pros

Benefits were fair. Co-workers were typically very friendly and easy to get along with; most were also hard workers. Admin Team runs the show and they all deserve more credit and recognition (and $$!) for their vital roles.

Cons

Lack of true leadership and formal structure. They will enjoy telling you over and over that they embrace this style of management, but it's only to cover up the disorganized chaos that lies beneath. Career advancement does not exist unless you're one of the chosen few who have been working there forever. Work-life balance is only achievable if your team has the proper support in place. Their self-proclaimed "Core Values" are clearly not very deeply held, which becomes obvious the closer you look at some of the people in charge and the disjointed nature of the business model.
