Pros

Walking in the door here, it is clear that it is not the normal consulting firm. The work/life balance you get here is much better than elsewhere. I enjoy the ample amount of stress-free time I can spend with my family.

Cons

The company mantra was all about ethics and advertised all over YouTube when I was hired. It is disheartening to continually see unethical actions in the office. I hate seeing employees get treated differently. Management should be equitable towards all of the employees in the company, instead of employees getting fired or held from promotion while others get away with the same things. It isn't right.

What you describe certainly isn't right. We try hard to build trust so that even if all the facts cannot be put on the table, our employees will assume that our motives are good. It would be difficult, and many times inappropriate, to share all the details needed to understand how a decision is reached. But we acknowledge that perceived injustices can deflate even the best employee. Sorry that you've been disappointed. If you haven't spoken to your management or to HR, you are encouraged to do so.

Pros

1) There are tons of great people at IPM. It was one of the main selling points for me despite the 7-8h interview process. Most people at the company truly make the effort to get to know you and are genuinely good humans inside and outside work. 2) They have a nice “project mercy” initiative that promotes giving back to the community and fosters team building. I was able to attend a few and it was a lot of fun. 4) The HR team is fantastic — the first time I’ve actually seen human resources who actually care about the humans.

Cons

1) I was a bit disappointed by the reactions of management when I gave my resignation notice. They seem to take departures personally. By the end I was happy and relieved to have left. 2) They really pride themselves on their culture. I was very drawn to this too because the people I met initially were really great. But every company meeting opens with a prayer (I felt this to be bit tone deaf to the multicultural, multi-faith employee group). 3) The client engagements are largely out of your control and I found that I plateaued in my growth a few months in, and the remaining term was long and boring. It’s not a typical consulting role and you should try to make sure to ask probing questions about the type of role you will do. Don’t be alarmed if you are initially underwhelmed by the lack of challenge. In terms of roles, responsibilities, growth, and interesting-ness, IPM was a step down in my career path. I had some prior consulting experience and this was not what I expected. 4) The offices… even the “new” ones…to me looked like the spare rooms of a 1980s high school. There’s a smell to go with it. I don’t miss working from those offices. 5) Interviews (7-8h over multiple days, with 6+ people), were exhausting and, in hindsight, completely not indicative to me of the type of consulting role this would be. 6) The salary/benefits package is extremely uncompetitive (at least compared to other similar roles in the east/west coasts). The vacation time starts at only 2 weeks. And Salary is far below average.

I couldn't agree more that IPM is rife with amazing people - "genuinely good humans." It's actually hard work to find them, hence the long interviewing process, which of course can never be foolproof. We find most people are very happy to have the opportunity to get to really know IPM through such interface with so many. Partially because we do invest so heavily in hiring for right fit, we do also take resignations personally. We care. But we also understand that we aren't for everyone, and we thank you for your review. Best of everything to you.

Pros

The 'PM consultants' are good people to work with; always willing to help each other; the company has good medical benefits; other benefits and compensation is at par or below comparable firms. PMCs have a fair amount of autonomy with clients.

Cons

Middle management is not empowered to make decisions, some managers are inexperienced; no clear career development path; company is intent on checking off it's goals rather than developing a strategic plan to grow revenue.

Thanks for sharing your opinions, and especially the kind words for your colleagues. We acknowledge that there will always be improvements to be made, and the creation of a Principal Consultant role earlier in 2015 recognized the need for an expanded career path. We are also intent on consistent, sustainable growth and challenging, strategic projects can only aid in that pursuit. Thanks for the feedback and best wishes to you.
