Pros

Lots of good people work here. It's a large enough company you can probably move around if you don't like your current department. If you can stomach the kool-aid you'll probably like it.

Cons

Some folks in HR and senior management have an almost cultish attitude toward the company and seem to think they're doing you a great big favor by allowing your employment. The "classes" they force employees to take are maddening. The test you have to endure after the classes are insulting. They love to brag about their benefits, but I'm not impressed. PTO is limited, health plan is too expensive (for families) etc.

Pros

I worked for HealthStream for almost 10 years. When I started with the company it had a solid entrepreneurial startup feel. Although, the pay was below market and the benefits (for a family) were the worst I'd ever encountered, the work I was doing felt meaningful, valuable, and appreciated. I felt that we were building something for the greater good of people and I was happy to be a part of it. It seemed everyone at HealthStream was dedicated to our mission and our customer's successes both internal and external. However, over the years the company started to succumb to its growth. Our teams were drastically understaffed and drowning in customer commitments with no support from management. It was very normal to work a 65-85 hour week just to miss deadlines and customer expectations. With no work-home-life balance, sub-par pay and horrible benefits a lot of the dedicated, talented team members either left or completely burnt out rendering them unproductive. * Good people still work there * Flexible schedule * Unique learning opportunities and benefits * Located in a building (Cummins Station) with other cool and innovative companies

Cons

*** Corporate red-tape, office politics, and very out-dated processes limit growth opportunities at HealthStream. *** A complete lack of trust, communication, and accountability between development teams (app, database) and the Site Operations/Security teams completely stifle innovation, optimization, automation and modern development practices. *** High turnover, layoffs, and product restructuring/rebranding are becoming normal. *** Executives and upper management are more often disconnected from their teams and fail to present a clear focus for the future of the company. *** Pay is typically below average. *** You'd expect decent health benefits from a healthcare company, however, BCBS ($650/monthly - $4000 Deductible) no other options!
