Be very careful who you serve.

Pros

Upper level managment will probably have a decent retirement package and there is no doubt that the decision to cross lines of no return has been made a long time ago.

Cons

Careerbuilder called me because they were doing a survey on why HealthHelp's turnover ratio was so high. There is not a lack of knowledge from leadership as far a what actions need to be taken to improve the environment. This has been directly communicated to the leaders several times. Multiple recommendations were made on how to improve the culture but none were implemented. Some of the recommendations were cost free. There is a major lack of desire to ease the suffering and pain of the oppressed employees. I think that selfish ambition and greed outweighs any moral obligation of human decency by leadership. The hours are extremely long and many employees spend their time sobbing uncontrolably in their cubicals. The environment reminds me of the military. It is a good place to gain the world and loose your soul (except for the gain the world part).

Pros

Revolving door of fresh, new management that is hired typically for high energy. pedigree, accomplishments and enthusiasm - - - until the CEO needs a scapegoat to offer up blame to investors, or demonstrates her corrupt female "Napoleon Complex", or smells a hint of disloyalty toward her. I have seen it going on for years and years but she is the self appointed President. Anyone who unconditionally supports the CEO does well by her. Salaries are much above average because it is the only competitive recruitment tool.

Cons

Immoral, and paranoid leadership style that hires and fires management & staff based on personal whims and CEO mood swings. Company on a whole has obvious discriminatory practices towards minority and diversity employees. CEO has fired highly talented employees and later, she tries to openly ruin their professional and personal lives, not simply let a person move on. She demands her direct reports support her dishonesty in speaking badly of ex-employees, inlluding me. I wish I could disavow ever working here but after five years, it is the part my career I am most ashamed of. I am truly sorry to everyone the senior management made me fire, bully, threaten or discriminate against. I am very, very sorry.

Pros

Smaller company; run by a very decent CEO who you can tend to be more in contact with. Ability to self-pace a little more than in bigger companies.

Cons

Depends heavily upon a few companies for contracts. Some of those outside companies have very poor Directors in charge of projects. Statisticians who are into detail and take responsibility for their work may feel that "truthful reporting" is being tested by some of these outside PIs. Most resistance is due to these relationships with outside companies. Other issue: IT is too sql focused (sql-sql only) and slow to adapt technologies to other analytics software/methods; slow to modify the workstations; unable to understand technical problems enough to repair programming or correct data exchange issues (i.e. sql-sas).
