Waiting for their golden parachutes
Pros
None - I hate to be so blunt, but I really can't think of a decent pro. Even the nicest coworkers end up bitter and nasty until they leave out of sheer frustration. So, no pros here.
Cons
Where to start? Upper management is just waiting around until the stocks climb and some foreign company makes them a decent offer. Unfortunately for them, the U.K. Pension is the major albatross. However, rest assured that if a decent offer is made, the four-headed Hydra on the 3rd floor will drop this place like a hot potato and float out of Camp Hill with their golden parachutes. They have zero vested interest in the lower level employee. Advancements are hand picked by smarmy personalities and where loyalties lie instead of hard and decent work. They pay "just enough" that it looks like an OK salary except when you research your rate and expertise somewhere else. Also, they almost never allow for people to move up internally because they don't want to pay them an increase, but they will hire external people at salaries that are jarring. The internal employees always find out because there is no confidentiality in the corporate building at all. Everyone knows to the penny, what everyone else makes. It's a ridiculous slap in the face. They spent this crazy amount of money to rehab the building and foster an "open work environment". The only thing it managed to do was make everyone skeptical, suspicious, and open for micro management to a level that makes you want to jump out the window. Honestly, I despise coming here everyday and I look for other opportunities every minute. You don't realize how nasty and bitter this place makes you until you speak with a fortunate soul who left - even if they were "let go", it ends up being the best thing to happen to them after the initial shock and panic. Oh, and then there is the rumored "alumni" association managed underground by a former executive who was "let go" and not on his terms. It's bizarre and weird and I wonder what is being plotted by him to have such a vested interest in why people exit this company at an alarmingly by rate? Granted, it does give one pause, but 9 times out of 10 the exiting party couldn't take the hostility, abuse, micromanagement, cronyism, etc. No huge surprise to add to the "alumni directory". Bottom line - they will sell this dump at the first whiff of a decent offer and not think twice about it. After all, this is a company who did firings and layoffs by enshrouding them in stupid code names - Project Panther, Project Orion, Project We're Silly For Taking the Abuse. When you're poised to gain a few million just for showing up every now and again, and sticking it to the people who actually do the work, what do they care? They won't have to see our sad faces again. Tick, tock, tick, tock. Just waiting until two of the execs go jet-setting to China, come back, hold a Town Hall of nothing but lies, and tell us that they spent the better part of the week getting drunk and galavanting around Asia. Oh wait, they already did that. This is their stellar communication and meaningful work for the company.
