Pros

Flexible firm, gives you leverage, easy going. Management has newly changed and is better than the previous structure. Good location, hence good tube and overground connectivity.

Cons

Terrible reward structure and too much bureaucracy! Male dominated, no room for growth or development. High employee attrition rate

Pros

The commission scheme is reasonably generous, but not as 'market leading' as they would have you believe. Some longevity in the market. Good for contingent recruitment - limited success within retained

Cons

Everything is geared to serve and line the pockets of the partners. Uncollaborative and very protectionist environment. Email culture where things are communicated through inference. Expect to receive an amended employment contract every 6 months protecting them, and not you. Sales and negotiation styles are more aggressive than consultative. No benefits at all and salaries for junior staff are punitive. Vast majority of staff are on commission only setups - hence why the culture is very 'me first, you last'. Clients are treated like cash-cows with little thought given over to long term relations. The groups leading client book changed every quarter. Expect to split your placements, even if your more senior colleague has done nothing to earn it. Little understanding of retained search methodology. Expectation to pay for all your own expenses - so very little client or candidate entertainment occurs. No access to private meeting rooms - unless you're happy to pay for the privilege from your gross salary.

Dear former Employee, I am sorry that you did not enjoy your time at Hanover and hold such a negative view of our business ethics. I must admit that they are not comments that I recognise. I have recently completed a MBO at Hanover and the new board are working hard to build a strong values and service proposition for our staff and clients alike. I hope you find more success and fulfilment in your new career. Regards, James Emmett

Pros

It can be entrepreneurial and flexible

Cons

I billed 90k in a year and didn't see a penny. You have to bill over your basic salary every quarter or you'll fall into deficit. 3 sick days per year. Toxic management and school bullying atmosphere. Hire and fire policy. A company built to make profit and sell on, dont go there.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. We are always interested in feedback whether positive or in this case negative. I am personally very sorry that you did not have a good experience at HSG. As you describe yourself as a Senior Consultant (a title/position we no longer use) I can only assume you left some time ago and this is a delayed reaction. I am pleased that you see us as entrepreneurial and flexible and this is certainly in keeping with our group values of agility, innovation, collaboration & trust. We are also certainly a profitable company & this allows us to invest in & grow the business as well as add additional regions and service lines. Indeed after over 23 years we are enjoying some of our fastest growth in 2019. I am also very pleased to say that it has been many years since I have had to respond to such a negative review. On a final note I would also point out that we have a better than 95% staff retention rate that would reflect our desire to provide an extremely positive, flexible and supportive working environment & culture. I very much hope that you find more success in your current/future employer.
