Pros

The dogs! They're hands down the best part of working there, they're the most intelligent, sweet, intuitive animals. In 3 years I've gotten to not only watch litters of puppies grow but grow into life saving medical service dogs. They never cease to amaze me every day. You're not only encouraged to play and love on the dogs it's a job requirement. The training style is positive and gentle, encouraging the dogs to think for themselves and make decisions to provide the life saving tasks for their recipients. All of the staff has a variety of reasons for being there but ultimately the goal is the same.

Cons

Like every work place, there are hard days. Unlike other working environments, you're encouraged to go cuddle a dog when those days happen.

Pros

Amazing mission with life changing results- stories of our dogs impact are shared with staff every week, Leadership truly cares about helping the people we serve and about each and every employee who works here, flexibility to work with and learn from multiple department areas, encouragement of creative ideas and out of the box thinking, get to see dogs everyday, great response to covid-19 pandemic- one of the main concerns of management, besides caring for our dogs, was keeping everyone employed and taken care of, co-employees who care about your well-being

Cons

As long as you are a hard worker, you will be fine. Because we have a relatively small employee base, everyone helps out with multiple areas/ departments and sometimes deadlines can get stressful, as with all nonprofits. You will be fine if you are willing to put in the work to the best of your ability and ask for help when you need it. Other staff members and management will lend a hand when needed.

Pros

Mission, Executive Leadership, professional Board of Directors and Advisory Board, inclusive weekly video meetings, ability to work in service to veterans, first responders and civilians with visible and invisible disabilities, witnessing first hand the incredible difference a medical service dog makes to her/his new human within the first 24 hours, to truly know what you are doing can make a huge difference for a worthy cause.

Cons

If I had any cons, which I do not, I would not post them here, I would provide leadership with the professional courtesy of sharing my thoughts only with them. On a personal note, the con for me was making the difficult decision to step away to re-evaluate, and take some courses that will help me in the future as a grant writer.
