Pros

Varied work, capable colleagues. A great education in the dirtier side of business. Would make great source material for a book, had I not blanked out this period of life from my memory.

Cons

Large workload and an expectation of long working hours, typically between 50-60 hours a week, sometimes up to 100 hours per week. The main problem is that business was slow, so normal engagement rules and moral values were cast aside in pursuit of new business. There was an unrealistic expectation of what could be completed within a given time frame, not helped by demands for working on public holidays and weekends. Countless vitriolic emails from leadership all through he night demanding work be done immediately. Many problems stemmed from clueless leadership making impossible promises to clients. They then crack the whip, shout and use instant dismissal, delayed salary payments and other methods to coerce employees and contractors to attempt to complete the work. A toxic environment, best avoided.

Pros

Flexible work from home policy, which is a huge deal. Good leaders and personalities behind the wheel. People try hard to support and each other. Overwork is not glamorised, like it is at other agencies. Leaders are encouraging and supportive of your professional development, and make it a point to hire and keep the best people. Decent benefits. Recently had a positive revamp of leave structure. Gives time off for wellness, birthdays, and community service alongside the usual annual leave. Interesting and diverse clients; likely good training for newer employees, gives them opportunities to do many different projects across various industries.

Cons

Workload can get heavy; teams run smaller, but clients and projects are quite big. Lots of benefits, activities, sharing sessions, learning opportunities available, but being too busy impacts our ability to engage in them. Hoping that will change in the coming year as more people get hired. HR resources are hard to find; no easy resource for summaries of benefits or reference documents regarding healthcare and allowances, one has to ask the busy HR staff to help find relevant info. A number of people at mid-level leaving at the moment. Unsure why, but important to consider.

Pros

The most highly skilled paid media team I’ve ever worked with Everyone in the team cares about each other Seniors go above and beyond to help us and guide us and provide us with support The leaders have our backs Can work from home/remotely as default Leaders give us a lot of flexibility especially those of us with young kids Allows us to learn a wide breadth of channels (we are never siloed) Emphasis is always on being strategic and not purely executional (this was the hardest for me to shift my mindset as all other agency’s don’t care about ad buyers, they’re only like factory sweatshops whereas at GrowthOps even the media planners always review and are collaborative with our ad buying team. Our ad buying team are all taught how to build media plans so we’re more well rounded Honestly I can’t emphasise just how great it is for high performers and those with a growth mindset

Cons

The vast majority of the cons actually don’t come from the company, but mainly from clients. Clients can put undue pressure on us with limited turnaround times This can lead to overload in work Might not be the ideal place if your media but skills are average or below average You will feel the pressure as the entire team are very efficient in the speed of their executions and implementations
