Griffith does NOT care about you

Pros

The pay is pretty competitive and benefits are not bad.

Cons

The head of HR told all staff that "Griffith does not care about you" and it's true. They don't care about the general staff. We just keep getting treated like crap and when people move on they are not replaced. That creates even more strain on the general staff because they have to pick up the slack. Also, they don't follow procedures and keep taking away our rights but there is no one to talk to about this. HR doesn't care.

Worst place to work!

Pros

I can't think of any... Apart from the fact that you can drive to work...

Cons

Very government - people have worked their way up since finishing uni at Griffith and have never worked anywhere else. Lots of people doing nothing - working very little and getting paid lots. Very discouraging for someone who has come on board with lots of external experience wanting to share new ideas and being shut down because "that's not how it's done around here." Culture is very bad in my department - people work very little hours and do a lot of personal projects and work in their work time. They get away with what they can until told otherwise. HR does not enforce a bullying policy and people get away with a lot. Fair work deal with Griffith a lot in QLD compared to other employers. Worst workplace I have EVER worked in. Unprofessional, underpaid and completely demotivating. There's a reason Griffith was called super TAFE.

Needs a serious restructure

Pros

- Southbank and Mount Gravatt Campuses are nice and are accessible to transport - Gold Coast Campus has a good public transport access to the beach - In some parts of the University, the culture is good

Cons

- too much politics and hubris at the upper levels of management - they don't seemed connected with the actual business of the University. They only care about league tables and their own careers. - too much bureaucracy - feels like an old style public service department - performance management demands are excessive, given that GU is not a top University, and never will be. - no real support for academics teaching students who are "first in family" to attend higher education, and for students who have low ATAR scores and probably should be learning a trade and applying their skills elsewhere. - no proper ongoing review of program content (Medicine, Dentistry, Allied Health (except Social Work), Architecture, Accountancy excluded) which impacts upon what is taught to real students. - too many academic managers trying to keep their jobs and bullying staff. - terrible public transport to Nathan and Logan Campuses.
