Life Is Great if you never work at Great Eastern
Pros
A good place for those who do not want people to talk to them.
Cons
The worst company I ever joined in the finance sector. People and bosses are totally unfriendly and show no interest in talking to newcomers. They have a culture of making everyone fear their bosses. Turnover rate is extremely high in the team I was in. Most would leave within a few months. I felt the job was manageable, but it was the people that made me left the company. I was a cooperative employee who turns up on time, never goes out of office other than during lunch break and I do not smoke. Despite all that, I was always being criticized for everything I did. People in the company are only good at criticizing but not encouraging. In the first month, I was already told I was having a bad performance. In my first week, I was told not to approach my manager due to her busy schedule. Hence, I assumed she would approach me when she is available. However, she never communicated with me or let me know her availability. In my third month, I was being criticized for being too quiet and focused on my work in the company, which is perfectly normal in most corporate setting. Over here, it does not matter if your performance is good, you just have to do whatever gives the higher ranks satisfaction. This is the only company with such a mean culture among all the places I have worked at. OCBC Bank, who owns Great Eastern has a much better working environment with colleagues who are friendly and encouraging regardless of ranks. Well, not saying you should not join this company. It is just not for someone like me who wants a friendly working environment.
