Pros

There is a really great mission behind organ and tissue donation. BUT the term non-profit simply does not exist.

Cons

It really is about money VS saving lives. You will see that for yourself. THE POOR MANAGEMENT- Many people who work there have the exact same complaints about the same managers for years on end. But … repercussions for reporting them keeps people from speaking out. Hershey is notorious for both leaders (I use the term leaders very loosely) for being extremely poor management and there are those within Philadelphia that are just the same. I've worked with great mangers and directors in the past, unfortunately GOL holds onto people because they cannot afford to find replacements. Pull anyone aside in confidence or speak to former employees and you’ll learn quick. Keep records of everything with dates and times in the instance you need to use it. It was a very toxic place to work for so many reasons. I could go into great detail but what good would it do? My mental health suffered greatly in this place. I know many working there are struggling just the same. To those employed- don't be afraid to walk away. You are a role to fill, a number to have, you do not matter to them and you know it. The reasoning behind all those negative google reviews from families of loved ones who have passed-being harassed by the call center when people haven’t slept for weeks on end already is absolutely true. The call center will indeed begin calling the family right after passing and will continue calling all through the night. Yes it’s time sensitive. BUTTTTT the hospital liaisons, and coordinators should be communicating to the family and to the hospital staff to pass along and share with the family that once a loved one passes there is a small window that tissue donation can occur, to expect calls from GOL. This is obviously NOT being communicated to these families. Therefore negative interaction, negative reviews and negative outlook on the donation process. i.e. The STIGMA against donation. They have every right to be upset and frustrated. I ran into too many hospital staff that were against donation themselves. That is the impact GOL is leaving on people. There is absolutely no reason to run people on 24hrs without sleep. Some have gone longer than that. It’s extremely dangerous to the staff driving these long hours on no sleep and it’s dangerous for others on the road. We are not providers and not hospital bound with call rooms to sleep in. Risking your own life for this is an abhorrently negligent. Staff turnover wouldn’t be so high if they would read and take these reviews seriously and act on them rather than shaking the hand of the poor managers that continue doing the same thing people have complained about for years on end. You can’t change horrible managers. So get rid of them! Maybe your company morale and reviews would change. Until then good luck! If the standard 24hrs of call would change across the board to 16hrs of call, the dynamic would be exponentially better for all! You can lessen the pay if need be but stretching people that thin is why you cannot keep anyone.

Pros

The work is meaningful, I learned a lot. Felt I had purposes

Cons

The people make it unbearable. Mean girl work culture with clicks and the Admin in charge of continuing education - Andrea was an abhorrent human being. She talked badly about everyone, rummaging through the desk of others, disclosing personal information others trusted her with but would smile in your face after.
