Pros

the only pro of working at Ghost was that I was fed breakfast and lunch by the company on a daily basis

Cons

no work life balance whatsoever. they expect you to dedicate all of your time, including Saturday and Sunday, to this company. you could be exceeding expectations in your role, but if you don't put in hours that last long into the night or on the weekends, it will seem like you aren't doing enough. the politics here are also the worst i have ever seen. if you do anything other than wholeheartedly agree with management on their decisions, then you're essentially putting a target on your own back and will eventually be let go. I am not confident that Ghost will be a real player in the AV industry. They just laid off a ton of very talented people, and I think they will end up shutting down all operations just like Argo AI.

Pros

- Free breakfast and free lunch 2 days out of the week - Chill coworkers - Interesting work and plenty to do - Fun offsite parties and relaxed atmosphere

Cons

- As of mid-fall 2022, it was clear that the funding would no longer be rolling in (maybe things have changed, but there were quite a few layoffs, so something is amiss) - Constantly relying on weekend work with often last minute solutions and little to no planning - Unclear product/ business path; Didn't seem like most people in charge had strong experience in automotive at all and how to market the eventual product to OEMs/ customers - Unique feature base and offerings don't really do a great job at differentiating it from the 2 million other AV companies receiving money from VCs - Constant track switching and pivoting that was more extreme than other startups I've seen to the point where it would delay and frustrate certain projects

Pros

1. Rate of change: The progress over the past year in particular has been genuinely exciting and inspiring. 2. Makers, not managers: Everyone who excels here is a doer, across every level of the organization. This is not a place for layers of bureaucracy or idle managers - there are no armchair experts. For a still-small team (~150), the breadth of the undertaking is remarkable, and that requires people across the board to truly take ownership. 3. Actually doing something different and interesting: Beyond even the novel approach, path to scale, and potential for meaningful impact, it's simply cool to see your collective work result in a car safely driving itself on the road. 4. Playing the long game: This reflects well on the people involved, especially leadership and the founder.

Cons

1. It's often hard: Taking on a challenge of this magnitude requires humility and persistence. For many, this is very empowering, but I understand it's not for everyone. 2. Growing pains: At times, we've had to overcome challenges with our softer and organizational skills, such as planning and communication. While these are typical for a fast-moving start-up, it's important to keep improving to ensure clarity and efficiency, especially as we continue to grow.
