Pros

- Great resume builder. - You will do everyone else's job, so you'll gain a lot of experience to help you get out of the company and find something better. - If you can make the right friends you will move up quickly. - Many opportunities to have romantic relationships. (Wanted or not) - You'll get a minimum of a 15% pay increase when you leave the company. I got a 40% pay increase, with several other offers in the same pay range.

Cons

- If you don't drink the Kool-Aid and make the right friends you will be held back with much less pay than you deserve and be overlooked for several opportunities. - Drama, Drama, Drama. - Pay. You will absolutely make less money than you could make at almost any other company doing the same job. - Opportunity. Promotions are handed to people who make the right friends or are young and attractive women, even though 'Promotions' are against the company policy and everyone else has to go through hoops and apply and interview just for a lateral move. The greatest long term employees will be overlooked if they are competing with one of the male VP's favorite young women or their 'friend' that plays the politics game. - Too many middle managers doing nothing but job searching and online shopping all day while their employees do all the work for half the pay. They continue to create more middle management jobs just so their friends can get more money to do nothing all day too. - Sexual Harassment. Don't even bother telling HR, they will find a way to save the VP with the folder full of complaints against him and the person complaining will be in more danger than they were before. These aren't just crude comments being tolerated, but touching and threatening. I am surprised there have not been lawsuits against the company and their leadership yet. (KEY WORD: YET) - The company only has 'ups' when they make an acquisition to cover up their failing numbers or when a hurricane hits and they celebrate thousands, if not millions, of people in hardship. - You will have no work life balance. You are basically treated like a slave. You come home exhausted and angry, so it affects your home life too. NEVER ACCEPT A LAPTOP FROM THIS COMPANY OR YOU WILL BE WORKING NIGHTS AND WEEKENDS FOR NO EXTRA PAY OR RECOGNITION.

Pros

A great resume builder! Get noticed quicker in the job market by adding the name Generac to your resume. If you can last more than a year at this company, you can handle just about anything! You can also work as many weekends as you want. The company does not frown on working late nights or weekends. This company also promotes a healthy work / life balance, as long as your life doesn’t interfere with work.

Cons

Non-Rewarding: Accomplishments are not rewarded properly. They are briefly acknowledged then quickly forgotten or dismissed. However, promotions are available and provided to young attractive women, simply for being young and attractive. If you are a young attractive woman, this is a great place to work! Bureaucratic: Multiple approvals are required for routine tasks. You will spend more of your time selling internally than selling to your external customers. Provides great experience in politics if that is a field you are interested in, but is very inefficient in a business environment. High Expectations: Economics does not apply to this company. Management does not appear to understand nor care about how demand affects the marketplace. Expectations are high at the beginning of the year, and remain high throughout the year regardless of demand or any other business change. Turnover: The company seems to have a revolving door. In my three years at Generac, I reported to seven different direct managers. Management preaches that change is good and needs to be embraced; you can’t disagree with that statement. However, too much change too rapidly causes un-needed stress. The amount of turnover at Generac has caused an enormous amount of un-needed stress. Unorganized: Very sloppy decisions are being made causing delays. These things need to be framed up better and much more organized before announcing because it reflects poorly on the company and agents of the company. People need to understand the ramifications of these delays and be held accountable for them. Instead, acceptance has become part of the culture. Low Pay: Review the salaries page and compare to the market, this will allow you to gauge compensation provided at this company. Keep in mind that many of these salaries are based on achieving bonus. In a time of low demand, bonus is unattainable. Without bonus, the compensation plan falls far behind the market. Getting promoted into a new role will provide you with an increase, but that increase is based on a capped percentage. The only way to truly increase your earnings is to leave the company.

Pros

Lots of room for advancement, mainly because people are leaving in droves! The HR department is booming with talent, just look at all the 4 and 5 star reviews in the ratings here. With their writing skills, they should be publishing books! Note to HR: It was YOU that thought it would be a great idea to ask your employees to post reviews on Glassdoor, and so we did. Then you realized it backfired and that you had to start counter-posting in an attempt to keep the ratings from dropping to one star. Try focusing on retaining good people with real talent, and stop with all the rhetoric about "employee growth". The only thing growing around that company is everyone's workload because you don't replace the people leaving!!!

Cons

Pay, pay and pay, just to get started. Disorganized, favoritism, no room for growth. Sales teams work at desks the size of bread boards, which might be part of the reason for the high turnover rate there. Just read the other reviews with negativity in them, those are the real reviews. Ignore the higher star ratings as those are either HR or upper management being directed by HR.
