Pros

- Interesting Technology - Compelling RUO platform - OK work life balance - Average salary

Cons

- Lack of transparency, clarity on company strategy and objectives - Lack of transparency on stock options, % ownership, shareholders - Lack of trust, particularly with CEO, can never pin anything down. What is the truth, half-truth or an outright lie. - Management does not seem to be willing or able to consider new ideas. Middle management appears mediocre, decisions get passed up to CEO for consideration. If he can embellish or add, they proceed or it gets shot down. - CEO seems to want a tight control of anything to do with IP, almost paranoid. Takes credit sometimes where it is not due. - Feel silo'd, put into a box.

Pros

The only plus are the Cliff bars in the break room. The other reviews saying anything else positive is fake and BS.

Cons

Genalyte? More like Gena-LIES! When I decided to work here, I was excited to be part of a revolutionary biotech company. Though it took a lot of patience to deal with the issues with a startup company, I felt I finally found a company I will probably spend quite a long time with, grow with, and witness its maturity over the long years. However, one morning I woke up to shocking news that I, along with 40+ employees from CA and TX, got laid off without any prior notice. Just like that - my dedication, trust, and loyalty to this company - was gone, as they announced a massive "workforce reduction". And to make it worse, their way of announcing it - an online Google Hangouts meeting - was just unprofessional and impersonal. As I hear people upset and in tears though my speakers - I had an immediate feeling of "I knew it". At that point I finally knew that everything added up - the incompetent management, the difficult everyday issues in the field, unequal treatment of people, and unrealistic expectations - and it all struck some sense to me. There were a lot of things that I had to deal with - but I had trust in the company and I worked hard to help in my role and overcame it all. But the way they booted a great number of people, and of those a very good significant number of loyal and hard workers - just with a simple online announcement - is just the worst I have ever experienced in my life. I mean - I didn't even hear a single word from my own immediate supervisor that day or after - the final slap in my face! I do not recommend anyone to work here - Unless you want to make good money (at least in my position), and understand that you can wake up tomorrow without your job anymore. FYI there were massive layoffs during the 1st week I started and the last week I was with the company.

Pros

free snacks, small company, flexible hours, stock options, cool technology

Cons

Management can't decide which direction to go, projects change unexpectedly, expect employees to work in multiple departments (media, sales, engineering, biological testing) based more on the investors ideas than on the employees skills.

The reality is that a startup environment is not for everyone. One person’s con is another's perk. The ability to follow various paths and wear many hats until you strike the right combo can be exciting to many. At Genalyte, evolution has resulted in a business that blends software, services & hardware. We are excited by our direction and confident that our combination of talent and technology will lead to success. Plus we have great snacks!
