Pros

never take work home, occasional company events, $1,000 education credit (though this is low compared to other companies), there's not a lot you have to do every day, managers are great, some travel, flexible start time (though I was told before I left that this would be halted)

Cons

low pay, antique computer software, no "standard" worksheets/templates, zero training (their excuse is that each client is so different - but there's still basic/general things that happen with all clients that most professional companies would do some training on), unclear assignments, no off-cycle raises, health care is a joke, promotions happen after minimum 3-4 years, partners seem generally apathetic towards employees, 90-day review must be requested even though it's supposedly "standard", employee reviews are one-sided - they will ask you about your goals and then explain why they aren't important to your position, overly expensive part of town - you can't get a meal for under $10 within walking distance,

Inequality in pay and workload

Pros

If you work for the right team, work can be really light. Get paid to do the minimum.

Cons

If you work for the wrong team, you’re glued to your seat working your butt off while others just chat and play on their phones all day.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review about your work experience at Gelfand, Rennert and Feldman. The workload for our teams does fluctuate due to many factors, including the time of year, the type of client, and the specific needs of the client. Our intention is for our employees to continuously have a balanced workload. However, due to the nature of the financial industry, that is not always possible since we ultimately serve the clients and need to be flexible. Our management is committed to making fair decisions regarding pay. We have recently reclassified several positions to better align with the pay structure of incoming employees. For example, in 2019 we instituted three levels of Bookkeepers (Assistant Bookkeeper, Bookkeeper, and Senior Bookkeeper) to differentiate the experience and skill level of different employees. Again, thank you for writing a review and we wish you the best success in your career.

Pros

They train, give a lot of PTOs, great holiday party prizes, good employee referral fee, they hire fresh grads or inexperienced applicants, they will promote after at least 5 years of service

Cons

low salary, a lot of company "politics", young crowd so employees tend to do inappropriate and not so professional things, not very good medical "benefits", salary increase is almost nothing, 1 -2 %, no bonuses
