Pros

The product is very, very cool. Users absolutely love it and GC is on the latest tech stacks and there are some exciting technical projects to contribute to. There are a lot of really great people working here and plenty of problems to solve.

Cons

GameChanger is going through a lot of growing pains right now. We are the dominant app in baseball and softball and are in the process of figuring out A) how to become the dominant app across a variety of sports and B) how to scale a company. There is no vision or strategy for either of these (very big) things. There’s a huge resistance to process and structure, which can be good, but can also really cause a lot of pain while scaling. Leadership expects things to move as quickly in new sports as they did when we were just 2 teams building a baseball/softball app from scratch, which can put a lot of stress on engineering (and beyond). Nobody at the director or VP level has led teams anywhere near the size of their orgs before and they are not equipped for or supported in their roles — this trickles down to all levels and the TLDR for most roles is: if you can’t jump into your role and do it without support or coaching, it might be hard to succeed here. If you’re still reading, you may be thinking “ok these are pretty typical growing pains for a maturing company” and you might be right! But the cherry on top is that this junior, inexperienced leadership team also does not take feedback. Those who give feedback anyway or speak up about the issues they see around the company are ignored, pushed out, or fired.

Awful Company and Culture

Pros

Their tech stack is modern "unlimited pto" I did see people take month off at a time however not sure how this affected their performance

Cons

Bad culture - they are super toxic and manipulative. Management is awful and there is a lot of office politics - people getting pushed out and favoritism. They will not support you in your engineering growth. They will not want to pair program or mentor you. The interview felt like a lie to what the actual job is like. Listening to current employees it has only gotten worse. If you want panic attacks and to hate your life everyday you can work here. Zero work life balance, if you aren't a senior engineer they will expect you to preform like one anyways and give you no guidance, help, or mentorship. My manager was so awful at people skills that he inspired hatred for engineering. They shouldn't have put someone in a manager role when they had zero managerial experience.

Pros

Free Snacks, Generous Benefits, and free Apple products.

Cons

Working at GameChanger started with promises of innovation, teamwork, and growth. However, beneath the surface, a toxic culture fueled by poor senior leadership festered, leading to a nightmarish work environment. At GameChanger, layoffs and reorganizations happen more frequently than changing your bedsheets, creating a turbulent and uncertain work environment for employees. Talented individuals are laid off and shuffled in droves. As others have said from the top down, the leadership at GameChanger fails to foster a supportive and empowering atmosphere. Instead, employees found themselves subjected to mismanagement, favoritism, and a lack of transparency. Decisions are regularly made without regard for employee well-being or input, leading to frustration and disillusionment among the staff. The CEO of GameChanger demonstrates a concerning lack of understanding about youth sports and a track record of mismanagement akin to some of his previous ventures, raising doubts about his competency to lead effectively. In the end, the lesson learned from the nightmare at GameChanger is clear: without strong and competent leadership, even the most promising company can quickly spiral into dysfunction and despair.
