Pros

Adult consultative environment, people are treated as peers, very experienced recruiters, no micro-management, a great brand, autonomy to deliver, treated as individuals.

Cons

Nothing - Best move of my career!

Pros

Nice office in St Paul’s, London

Cons

Horrible management, brutal, they don’t care, they just want to make money. No flexibility either

Pros

- So long as you're billing, you're free to do as you please - Relative flexibility - Good pool of clients and a well known brand

Cons

- Senior management has changed significantly over the past 1-2yrs, resulting in a leader that few believe in - Bonuses very much 'finger in the air' - they'll pay as little as they think they can get away with (I was there for a number of years and it was always the same). If you have a slow start to the year, it makes catching up your shortfall and making a bonus very difficult. This is perhaps their biggest problem as a number of consultants would openly just 'ride the year out' and not push themselves. - Focus on hiring junior (cheap!) 'Associate Consultants' which is diluting what the brand was known for - If you're face fits, great. If not, you'll stagnate at the same level with increasing pressure. - Benefits, whilst similar to most competitors, are generally poor (mat leave for example)

Pros

This company has been a fantastic place to build my career. The location is great, and the team genuinely enjoys working together — whether it’s bonding over meals, celebrating wins, or collaborating across regions. There’s a strong sense of purpose and connection, and the brand is well-known and respected throughout Southeast Asia. The culture is international and collaborative, with colleagues from all over the world bringing different perspectives and strengths. Leadership encourages autonomy and trusts people to do their jobs, which makes a big difference in how empowered you feel day to day. One thing I really respect is that management doesn’t shy away from tough decisions. When certain individuals were clearly toxic and damaging to the team culture, they were let go — and that helped restore trust and morale across the board. Career growth is based on performance and contribution, not politics. There’s real investment in people, and opportunities to take on global projects and responsibilities.

Cons

It’s a fast-paced environment, and expectations are high — but that’s part of what makes it exciting. You need to be proactive and adaptable, but if you’re driven, you’ll thrive.

Ego driven management team

Pros

A great location to work, the team truly enjoyed bonding over food and sharing moments on social media. The environment fostered meaningful client connections and was backed by a strong brand presence across Southeast Asia. With an excellent global team, the culture was highly collaborative and internationally connected.

Cons

The management style was toxic — driven by ego, riddled with contradictions, and completely devoid of self-awareness. Micromanagers ran the show, with no respect for personal boundaries or trust in their team. Leadership was out of touch, obsessing over petty details like employee schedules and personal lives instead of focusing on actual business outcomes. The hierarchy was suffocating, deliberately limiting consultants’ growth and sabotaging any chance of developing real client or candidate relationships — effectively making promotions impossible. Targets were absurd, with expectations totally disconnected from market realities. Worst of all, the company resorted to posting fake job ads to bait job seekers, knowingly exploiting people’s hopes during an already difficult time.

Great place to be

Pros

Having worked in a FTSE recruiter, as well as owner managed group, FJ feels the right combination of the 2. Excellent client relationships that help you get up and running quickly, and supportive senior management who are genuinely engaged, and active, in their markets. It's a really good place to be.

Cons

Like all firms there are tweaks, but nothing of any note that I have found.

The culture has changed

Pros

A great environment to start your career in recruitment Lots of knowledge on the sales floor Nice office and well known brand Genuinely some great people in the business

Cons

The culture changed very quickly over the last 2-3 years, becoming much more KPI driven Unfortunately, your face needs to fit in order to be promoted or have buy in with senior management Whoever talks loudest will often have their way Quite a 'boys club' mentality. If you're not one to go out drinking, it's difficult to fit in. It's extremely smoke and mirrors - very little is communicated internally from the Board unless you're part of the in crowd. It's difficult to know which direction the firm is moving in as the communication is very poor.
