Was an interesting and cool company, but I'm not sure if I could recommend

Pros

[ ] Staff are amazing and hardworking [ ] Opportunities to take on projects and room to try/test/fail/succeed [ ] Non-covid days there was travel to different offices (SF/NY/London) [ ] US Benefits are GREAT [ ] Systems/tech used are modern and makes getting your job done super easy! [ ] Combines nonprofit and start-up culture, which is very unique

Cons

[ ] Did a slue of layoffs at the very start of covid, disproportionally affecting US teams. They tried to brush it under the rug, but the US company culture never really recovered. I don’t know how a company can build a culture of trust after that [ ] US had an unhealthy and workhorse culture   [ ] US leadership was unexperienced & self-promoting  [ ] Decisions are made in the UK about and not with you. While I don’t think I can fully recommend working at this company, if you want to get scrappy, work on some interesting project, or are interested to move into the social impact or start-up space, this could be a good stepping stone for you. I can really only speak for the US satellite offices, the UK headquarters seemed to have better quality jobs and culture.

OK for the right person, would not recommend for everyone else

Pros

good benefits and work/life flexibility.

Cons

I had highs and lows working for Founders Pledge, but I would resoundingly not recommend - especially for employees not based in the UK. There's an "inner circle" sort of mentality that surrounds the CEO, and people get promoted based on their proximity to certain figures in leadership and their ways of thinking more than anything else. Teams are siloed, there's no alignment in goals or clarity around decision-making. And, there have been a high number of people fired over the past year that has caused unease but leadership has not addressed root causes or taken ownership. You work for a nonprofit like Founders Pledge presumingly because you care about doing good, and while they do move a lot of money - all of their time and attention is directed to their members (tech founders) and not their grantee organizations. Even the research team who is the closest to grantees ultimately serves high-value donors, which causes a massive disconnect between what Founders Pledge says and what they do.

It had its moments

Pros

Dynamic environment that let you stretch your brain. There is always an opportunity to try something innovative. You are also working with a group of people who really believe in the work they are doing which is inspiring.

Cons

Very complex & bias relationships with the more senior staff, especially those residing in the UK, making growth, visibility and relationship building challenging for the US team. Sometimes I felt like the organization lacked inspiration from leadership to drive the mission forward internally and that would be reserved for external facing situations.
