Promises and Poor management

Pros

With this company there is many excellent learning opportunities. Whether it is learning how to configure a semi truck properly for auto-haulers or as a standard transport truck obviously to customer spec. We would take in what the customer wanted and present the layout whether it's a decal package alone or they need comm. systems or setup for more heavy duty uses while in service. We had the engineers that were able to provide answers as needed to make it happen for the customer.

Cons

Where to begin is more like it... The people that this company is allowing to come in and attempt to work on these trucks at least 65% of the "Techs" have no idea as to what they're doing (including some of the management) and much less have the tools and competence for use of them and understand what and why they're performing that type of service. A true tech understands how and why when a task/service is being performed or if not they'll research until they have a valid answer and if there is an issue that arises they'll be able to get the corrective action in place as needed and not "rigged" so it can ship. Please don't misunderstand what I'm saying there is some (keyword is some) people there that does understand and does know how to teach others (correctly) from their own work experience and passes the knowledge along to help get the tasks done, but the numbers that are capable is very few. Also you would think that the hierarchy in management would be interested in doing things right and by maintaining quality workmanship before it arrives to the customer and the customer is wondering what type of "techs" there is working for this company which specializes in this field... Their capable of putting on a good show for the customers that visit the facilities. The work that's performed on these are by the lead techs for that facility or they're brought in from another. Obviously understanding there's an area for training and bring people up to par when it's a new task of which no one within the facility has performed yet. But when bringing them in for them to do the work due to quality concerns that says something its self ( raises flags of the quality of training that's taking or has took place).

Pros

This is a small company so it is easy to stand out. You also have the opportunity to work in many different positions. They attempt to have a management trainee program to cultivate young engineers. Opportunity to work with a unique product with great engineering minds.

Cons

The many positions you will work in have nothing to do with your background nor what you are wanting to do. This company creates positions out of thin air and throws you into them without goals nor objectives with the expectation of greatness. Extremely limited diversity and inclusion. Upper management is primarily male, no females in operations, only one African American in management, no representation from other nationalities outside of Texas in management roles, (it's a very Southern "good ol' boys" type environment). Salaried employees have the same bonus as the non-salaried employees unless you have direct reports. And because of the skeleton bone crew, everyone is overwhelmed and working with a system not meant to do what the company is wanting. There are great generational gaps. Most employees have been with the company 20+ years and have been given positions based on seniority. They usually have no idea what they are doing and no educational background to suit the role nor does the company push them to get educated in he area. High stress environment.

Pros

Fontaine talks a good game, tries to promote safety with multiple initiatives, and even buy employees breakfast once a week at the end of the business week. Also does profit sharing at the end of the year.

Cons

Bad management. Promotions and raises and almost non-existent. Layoffs happen swiftly as soon as any slow down occurs. Nepotism and cronyism is common place, and those who are not the boss's favorites are given the unfavorable treatment even if they have the most skill while the favorites stay no matter how often they damage equipment or go over budget. So just the typical American workplace.
