Pros

Direct interaction with senior bankers Lots of work = lots of experience People are all very smart and come from diverse backgrounds

Cons

Always in the office, even weekends until 3 am Cold place to work, management always breathing down your neck 20% of job is composing emails for senior bankers, yelled at if not written properly Everyone is looking to exit but people are hush hush about it 30% employee turnover Work flows down from upper management to low level analysts (no process from distributing work, it just gets passed all the way down the chain of command)

Pros

- hardworking team - lunch sometimes catered - full kitchen

Cons

At first I was really excited to work for this company, but it quickly changed when I noticed a huge lack of diversity amongst my team and the way that the People Ops leadership speaks to employees is wildly disrespectful and condescending. I was one of the few that got cut at the beginning of the pandemic and to be honest, it wasn’t surprising, I was already interviewing for other roles. It was the type of action I expected from a team that lacked humanistic leadership. The team members that did help me were great, but I was hoping for more diversity and inclusion tactics in their recruiting. Everything on that team is very manual so be prepared to type in every single bit of data in excel and print out every single employee review. Analysts and Associates work very hard and they work super long hours, which causes them to barely have time for interviews and that can be very stressful for the people ops team I tried to erase my end date on LinkedIn so that I can pop up on recruiter searches easier and FT Partners filed a claim with LinkedIn for me to put an end date. I understand that I no longer work at the company, but as someone who is trying to find their next role, especially during a pandemic, I think that it was very hurtful that FT Partners would do that to one young employee who they let go during a pandemic.

Pros

Greater opportunity for exposure to client company management. Deal teams can be lean and the client companies are typically small so there is frequently exposure to the CEO or CFO.

Cons

Junior employees tend to be viewed as resources to be leveraged as opposed to individuals, hours are very bad even for an investment bank. Pay is significantly below street, analysts have seen their bonus figure stay flat or decline year over year. Tasks are sometimes menial, for example writing email responses for senior bankers.
