Pros

The only good thing was the salary and some cool and smart engineers.

Cons

Before I joined, I reached out to former employees who shared their thoughts. They mentioned that the CEO's communication style could be challenging. The ensured that as a designer you will not work on the actual product but will only do marketing work like designing emails and IG posts. The CEO did indeed have a unique and direct communication style. This often created an atmosphere of apprehension within the organization. Some colleagues privately expressed their fear via Slack messages. Personally, I found it manageable with some adjustment, rather than as extreme as others had described. The organization predominantly operated in a top-down fashion. There was limited room for discussion and collaboration. When the CEO made a decision, it was considered the final word. Even the Product Manager I collaborated with expressed frustration regarding this hierarchical approach. It is a one-man show. Another practice within the organization was the enforcement of asking questions during All Hands meetings. Often times, individuals were publicly called out forcing them to ask a question even if you truly don't have one, which raised eyebrows. The CEO's insistence on having cameras on during meetings. It seemed reasonable for smaller team meetings, but feels odd during larger meetings with 50 people or so. This shows the fundamental distrust the CEO has towards the people he hired. No opportunity for growth. Absolutely no leadership. There's a serious lack of diversity and inclusion. Hiring and firing were routine. One day you are communication with your peers on Slack, the next day their account is deactivated. This was normal. No open dialogue. Toxic environment and fundamental distrust in decisions that are made.

Pros

Some decent people are working here under the rule of a clueless tyrant.

Cons

This place is a chaotic, panic-attack-inducing mess. I still think how many years this place probably took off my life. The CEO is, literally no joke, the worst boss I've ever worked with. He's an egomaniac and forces people to ask him questions during weekly meetings and everybody just has to smile painfully along and hope they don't get called on. You have to have your camera on during meetings, which just shows a complete lack of trust in his employees. There is no protection for the customer support team. They get completely bombarded with vitriol all day long by people with broken products but you are just expected to keep at it. Answer more tickets about a product that is always confusingly changing. Unfortunately, that is the case for a lot of CS roles but this place is astounding in the ways they do not help their employees. Most places have a competent HR department or resources to help people through burnout. Not this place. And if you like dogs? Great, but get ready for dog s*** everywhere. Plenty of stuff I cannot even post about here but very much on the level of the Uncanny Valley book. All the positive reviews here are from people probably being forced to write good things about the company. Do not believe them. No amount of money is worth the mental health crisis this place will cause you.

Unethical CEO

Pros

- Dog-friendly office - Employees are friendly and kind

Cons

- The CEO berates employees publicly when they make mistakes (in "All Hands" Meetings and in the open office) which creates a hostile work environment. - Directions and expectations are often unclear, yet employees are blamed harshly when results don't meet Jonathan's standards. - Jonathan cares more about his dog than the well-being and fair treatment of employees. - Important cultural recognitions, such as Black History Month, are discouraged or deemed "too political" to acknowledge. - Overall, HR practices are not compliant with basic standards for preventing discrimination and ensuring equity.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We are sorry that we had to terminate your employment with Fi after just 1 month. While we understand that this can be a difficult experience, we do not believe that this should entitle you to make unsubstantiated claims. Fi has a zero-tolerance policy for discrimination. Every employee is hired because we believe that they are the best at what they do, as you were. We are proud that this has naturally resulted in a diverse team where ethnic minorities and LGBTQ are strongly represented. At Fi we strive to ensure that all feedback, whether praise or critique, is delivered in a way that supports growth and accountability; a standard to which we hold all employees, especially senior leadership. Our CEO — and the entire team to be honest — has high standards, and the exceptional caliber of our team reflects that. It is not for everyone, but this is our culture and for high performers it works amazing. We deliver all feedback with the utmost respect but will terminate individuals that do not show the potential to meet that threshold, promptly and in a respectful way, as we did with you. We wish you the best of luck joining a team that better fits the culture you are looking for.
